I can't speak to that school board so I don't know what they allowed in their libraries......but having two books which have adult content does not suggest pornography is rampant in school boards.
I've been on the committees to review books in libraries at the elementary, middle school and high school levels.
Never have we had anything like what this lady is claiming.
This wasn't about a young dude seeing a naked woman, it was about books, with pictures showing one dude giving another one a blow job, and another stating I can't wait to get you in my ass.
Boy, times sure have changed since I went to school.
I saw a picture of the book in question because someone on GLP uploaded it to post in that forum but lost the link. Someone higher up has to be making these decisions....either that or human beings are just perverted animals with no self control and no shame.
Why would a person think a kid needs to learn this in school? What goes through their mind? What thought processes lead them to these conclusions?

And this is not a one-off. There are other school board meetings where parents are complaining. Take a look and you'll see (some of them are of the same school, so you'll have to sift through) videos of parents raising the same complaints.
I previously posted a link to a Loudon District school board meeting where the parents read from a book that had a young guy slapping a young girl, locking her in the closet and only letting her out to have sex. The details were very descriptive.
We are seeing the seeds planted of an anti-female trend and people aren't seeing it. The elimination of the word woman, the inequity of sports with transgenders, and sexually explicit content being given to our youth that is degrading and makes them sexual objects, meant to groom them.
What in God's name will it take for those in denial to stop thinking this isn't a problem? Things they claimed were not problems and were just rare extremes five years ago have become common place. When the H will people wake up?
I'll just cut to the chase. I don't think we have a denial problem. I think we have an us vs them problem. I wouldn't want porn in any school. At the same time, I wouldn't have known anything about this unless I came here to city-data. I'm not thinking about it because I don't have any children. I don't have much reason to think about what goes on in schools because I'm not a parent. I know people who are parents.
And let's be honest. It's often the messenger we don't like. If it was someone we like or trust bringing this us, we'd listen. Half of the problems going on, we brush off not because we're in denial. We brush them off because we don't like the person mentioning it. We don't like the source. And I'll admit it. I'm like this sometimes.
Alot of times, we won't believe something because of WHO is mentioning it.
Yes, my public high school has both of these books on the shelf, and so does my community library. I've written a review of Lawn Boy on the other thread discussing this topic. Long story short: I have no objection to Lawn Boy being in a high school or community library. I have not read Gender *****, and will therefore refrain from passing judgement.
I am unfamiliar with the books however like most things it should be contextualized.
I see a lot of patients where parents tiptoe around talking with their kids about sex until their kids get STDs. I have also seen pediatric patients sexually abused at a young age (9years old) by a family member. If books like this were used so kids would understand what is not ok and nonconsensual and they would have more courage to speak up I would be for this.
If my kids have to be exposed to active shooter drills in elementary school then why keep them in a bubble regarding sex until they are 18?
In art there are indeed some visual activities portrayed and yes,(
in the h.s level library)
Such is available for study or lecture purpose. We had art history and while it was cultural (roman/Greek) there were many activities that the artist painted that fell into the pornography genre. Caligula was a fan of displaying his quirky desires, so he commissioned artist . These books we studied were more for concept not for pearl clutching.
No 8th grade and below had such material. Mind you the holy Bible is wrought with such antics as that displayed in pornography. And last I recall our schools are not banning that book carried by different faiths...

Books like this are not being used for that purpose. And not everyone has a child who has been abused at the age of 9.
Try listening to some of the parents reading from those books and then get back to us with the lesson you think they convey.
