Keep columbus Day and pick some other day to celebrate the first people who arrived after the glaciers receded.

Celebrate both on different days.

People are not indigenous! They may be native to an area, though not indigenous as are the rocks and soil.

Just my opinion.

But people can do whatever they want. You don't need the government to tell you what to celebrate.
Nothing against Italians - it runs in my blood- but Columbus might have been considered Portuguese. Italy was not formed yet.

There were no natives to this country/continent. The Amerindians migrated here just as the Europeans did when there were no immigration laws and no established country. No land was stolen that wasn't owned!

I know that Cinco de Mayo isn't a federal holiday but why is it a celebration in our country? It's about the Mexican army defeating the French and has nothing to do with the U.S.

Why Columbus? Why not have a day honoring all the European conquerors - Imperialism Day or something like that?

How about St. Patrick's Day? Anyway, if Italians think they need a day like the Irish and the Mexicans, they should pick a saint and do that one.

He was most likely born in the Republic of Genoa which would later be part of modern-day Italy.

St. Patrick's Day is widely celebrated in the U.S. as well, despite having nothing to do with our history. Do you object to that as well?
