Any opinions of the Stones not singing this song anymore live?
Quote:
It follows unease with the depictions of black women and references to slavery in the song, which reached number one in the US in 1971.

The band's veteran guitarist Keith Richards confirmed the decision to the LA Times but said he was confused by people who wanted to "bury" the track.

Next it'll disappear from all on-line streaming sources.

Good thing I kept my CD. I can play it any time I want.

Democrats sure do have a lot of free time on their hands these days. "Its Wednesday, lets see what 50 year old song we can cancel"

And the song was actually about HEROIN. Most songs back then were about some kind of drug. Mr. tamborine man for instance

And they are playing Wild Horses -- which they hadn't played for years and I wish they had when I saw them.

Not sure the Democrats have that influence on Mick and the boys.

One song the band seems to have dropped from its set since the tour started up again is “Brown Sugar,” the Stones’ gleefully problematic early-’70s smash that opens on a “Gold coast slave ship bound for cotton fields.”

“You picked up on that, huh?” Richards said when asked why they’re not playing the tune. “I don’t know. I’m trying to figure out with the sisters quite where the beef is. Didn’t they understand this was a song about the horrors of slavery? But they’re trying to bury it. At the moment I don’t want to get into conflicts with all of this s—.” He laughed in his signature raspy fashion. “But I’m hoping that we’ll be able to resurrect the babe in her glory somewhere along the track.”

Jagger, as usual, was more circumspect than his freewheeling counterpart. “We’ve played ‘Brown Sugar’ every night since 1970, so sometimes you think, We’ll take that one out for now and see how it goes,” he said. “We might put it back in.” For the frontman, “the set list in a stadium show, it’s kind of a tough one” — all those thousands of people to please while you work to stay engaged yourself in the music. “We did ‘Let It Bleed’ last night, which I managed to play on 12-string guitar,” Jagger said proudly.

Mick says they were just simply mixing up the playlist. Keith calls out the "sisters" claiming they got heat on it.

Always liked Keith better than Mick.

Well, it exists in the full catalog of their music. They haven't purged it, just choose not to perform it. I listened to it a few days ago and paid closer attention to the lyrics. I can see that, under our current sensibilities, that some people might be offended. It is still available as a recording if someone wants to hear it. I suspect that DJs might retire it after this. 1971 was a different world. Things didn't resonate as they do now.

Another song is "Under My Thumb" (1966), one of my favorites due to the music but the words might be a bit troublesome for some. I like the way the Marimba and bass weave through the song but don't pay much attention to the full lyrics. I graduated from high school in 1966 so it is part of my musical DNA. I suspect others might feel the same way about "Brown Sugar".
