Why no fuss for an innocent docile Indian grandfather who was mistaken for Black, brutally beaten by cops and the cops getting off totally free? Why does the U.S. value Black lives over our Indian lives?
I keep hearing people say that Floyd didn't "deserve to die".....
No chit.... nobody is saying that he did.
.....nobody is trying to "justify" it.
;b'But he didn't deserve to be lionized as some sort of innocent martyr either.[/b]
News flash:
Both things can be simultaneously true.
Nobody said he is being "Lionized".
The fact that he was murdered at the hands of a Police Officer is the problem.
His past should have no bearing upon what ultimately happened to him.
Which has absolutely NOTHING to do with a police officer overstepping his bounds and kneeling on anyhandcuffed person's neck for more than nine minutes!
Yeah, bunch of empty token gestures were made. Issue remains.
It’s sad that we glorified a druggie criminal who pointed a gun at a pregnant woman’s belly and continue to glorify. Look at all the stuff that we did because of George Floyd and tell me if we overreacted or not:
- Black squares on social media
- “Biggest protests evah!”
- Calls to defund/abolish the police
- Historic statues taken down
- Syrup bottles getting cancelled (Aunt Jenima)
- Lady Antebellum changing their name to “Lady A”
- The Dixie Chicks changing their name to “The Chicks”
- Riots, looting, and murders
- Burning down buildings and private property
- The name “master bedroom” and “master bathroom” getting cancelled in Houston because apparently “master” triggers memories of slavery (that nobody was alive for)
- TV show “Cops” cancelled
- Dr. Seuss cancelled in schools
- Increased demand for CRT
- School resource officers dropped in many schools
- “Autonomous Zone” created in Seattle where there was multiple murders, arson, looting, and police chased out of the neighborhood.
- Kids networks (Nickelodeon) showing a creepy video over Floyd getting choked
None of the stuff above helps race relations. In fact, it probably made it all worse.
Blacks don't care about each other, if they did, they would quit killing each other. The majority of murders are black on black.
This isn't about that though. This is about the reaction to the death of George Floyd. All I am saying is that the outrage by these white posers was merely so whites could feel better about their white fragility. White liberals, the savior of blacks everywhere. Okay, good one.
I agree that he shouldn’t be lionized. However, he is a symbol and stand-in for all the black men murdered or assaulted, unjustly profiled and arrested by police for America’s entire history. That is important to the black community and George Floyd represents that history, which so many have denied over the years.
This.
It’s happened for decades. Floyd was one of many including women killed unjustly by the police. To ignore the history and its impact, is turning a blind eye to the truth.
But this thread is about the reaction to Floyd, not the act.
Whites don’t care about blacks. If they did, they would put their money where their mouths are.
I care about the cops too. How should I put my money where MY mouth is?
That's a statement that doesn't make sense? Care to explain what you mean?

A lot of things on your list had nothing to do with Floyd's Murder either.
Except that George Floyd was not murdered. He died from a fentanyl overdose couple with an opioid dose.
If you read the autopsy report, it actually makes it clear while avoiding actually saying so.
What the cop IS guilty of is abuse. He continued suppressing Floyd long after he stopped struggling (he wasn't even struggling when Chauvin arrived on the scene). Kneeling on Floyds chest and back of neck when he was saying he couldn't breath (which proves he wasn't being choked), even when the other officer present repeatedly suggested they turn him on his side so he could breath. Chauvin did nothing to assist Floyd! Two years max for that, not twenty two and half years! He was undoubtedly a bad cop though.
So, over-react? Absolutely. Sure, have an outcry for the abusive behavior of the cop, but burn down cities? Make a martyr out of Floyd? Hell no.
