Looking for comments from flight attendants, pilots, etc. – not angry passengers who are, well, angry.

Why are mask rules enforced with such enthusiasm – while other rules are more of a “do your best, then move on” situation.

The mask is the ONLY rule where the FAs seem to have a zero-tolerance policy. What is the OFFICIAL tolerance policy on the other rules? Is it by airline? By pilot? Federal law? Or does the FA pick and choose? (I’m talking about cell phones, laptops, seatbacks, tray tables, weak exit row passengers, under-seat storage, and many more …)

Who makes the decision that MASKS are to be enforced up to and including duct-taping the passenger … while other “rules” just get a glance?

Or put another way: Why can’t the FAs approach the Mask Rule the same as the cell phone rule: “Do your best, then move on. If you see something, say something, but let’s not dwell on it.”

FAs – most of you are doing a great job under the weirdest circumstances imaginable – but bullying passengers is bullying, federal mandate or not. People – drunk ones, esp. – do not always respond well. Ends worse for the passenger than the FA, mainly, but our goal should be prevention, not punishment.

I'd like to see some evidence that mask rules are enforced more severely.

The times I flown there wasn’t any angry people, myself and others took our masks off to drink and eat, no one said anything.

At this point, people flying should expect mask mandates. We know this when we book the flight. You agree it to when you buy the ticket.

If you don't like it drive. Fight it by communicating to the airlines that they won't get your money.

Drunk? Who served them so much to drink?

Masks are enforced arbitrarily, based on whims of the crew and policy of the airlines. I spent the bulk of 10+ hr flights without masks and I had flight attendants require I put on a mask when talking to them. It just depends.

Oh? If you fail to use the seatbelt do the attendants just tell you 'do your best to hang-on if need be' and continue walking down the aisle?

Actually, a FA enforcing a federal mandate is more properly known as doing their job, NOT bullying.

Feel free to not fly if you disagree.

Kooks.
These people are well aware of the face covering rules before they get on the plane.
It’s not a gray area, it’s not optional, it’s not a misunderstanding.
They get on the plain with intent to be rebellious and confrontational.
They get what they deserve.

Probably because some passengers would complain if they see a FA walk past an unmasked person and say nothing.

Wondering how often some of you fly vs. intaking social media or news reporting. I dont mean that in a negative or derogatory way ..... however flying frequently now, and really throughout all of covid, this hasn't been my experience. Occasionally, a FA will ask someone to pull a mask up, but largely, its masks on during boarding, off during meal service, on again, off during drink service, etc etc.
