IMO, the British have had little impact on the current cultural state of India.
Thats why I said they should have stayed longer, the English have proven themselves to be extremely cultured people.

I still don't see any connection between the British and and the ingrained culture of India. BTW, I'm Italian-Slovakian by ancestry.

I'd say the British probably would have simply held them down and kept them even poorer and more uneducated, thereby perpetuating the problem. Colonialists were not benevolent. It's not like any of this **** is condoned by the current government.

The British, like any colonial government past or present, occupy a country to exploit the population and its resources, not to culturally advance the citizenry. It's you basic "master" and "slave" relationship.
