The one country western intellects held up as a success story from the Arab Spring is failing. So everyone who cheered about the rise of democracy in the Arab world were proven wrong. Tunisia was the one exception that everyone pointed to and said "see! It really can work. Liberal Democracy for EVERYONE!"

Now I know people here will lie, but I know the majority of you during 2010-2011 when Obama was promising freedom to Egypt and Libya and Syria were celebrating about the end of brutal dictatorships. Neocons wanted wars in Yemen, Syria, Libya, and the Kurdstan regions.

While democrats backed Obama, the republican talking point by McCain and his buddies was that Obama was not doing ENOUGH to support the Arab protests.

Now that it has all failed, what do you think?

Here are some quotes from the article:

But as the revolution’s high hopes curdled into political chaos and economic failure, Mr. Bousselmi, like many Tunisians, said he began to wonder whether his country would be better off with a single ruler, one powerful enough to just get things done.

That wand was held by Kais Saied, Tunisia’s democratically elected president, who, on July 25, froze Parliament and fired the prime minister, vowing to attack corruption and return power to the people. It was a power grab that an overwhelming majority of Tunisians greeted with joy and relief.

It is a shame, since Tunisia was the Arab country most likely to transition into an open, democratic society. We should have used a little bit of the billions we wasted in Afghanistan to help Tunisia. It is in our interests for democracy and free societies to succeed in the Arab/Muslim world.
