With public education in the area costing about $28,000 per child, per year, that’s a $139 million hit on New York taxpayers to educate children arriving unexpectedly just in those four counties.

The arrival of these children, mostly teenage boys, in local schools is creating a classroom crisis that is strapping educational resources, costing taxpayers millions in un-budgeted dollars, and aiding gang-recruiting efforts, argue parents, teachers and immigration experts.

“We’re at maxed capacity for kids with special needs, but they’ll keep sending them,” lamented one high school teacher in Queens, among the communities hardest hit by the illegal-immigrant student dump.”

So there you go folks, illegal immigration is a net positive for this nation.

I don’t think people have the slightest idea how much illegal immigration cost this nation in a myriad of ways. They say it’s a necessary evil to compete with China. Let me get this straight; we basically built up China so that we would then have to compete with them so that we would need to flood this country with 10’s of millions upon 10’s of millions of illegal immigrants. I haven’t even touched the problems that MASS legal immigration brings.

The mere extent of this vast power grab really explains why they went as far as they did, to push Trump out. Mind you, I supported him only due to his stance on immigration and globalization. More than enough reason to realize now that I will never vote for a Democrat again.
These unaccompanied minors shouldn't even be allowed into our country without a parent. They are the responsibility of them not the U.S. It is costing us dearly in so many ways. Add to that massive illegal immigration from adults along with bogus asylum seekers being allowed into our country and all of the above is a recipe for disaster.

Glad to see Long Island get a feel for what Texas citizens have been putting up with for 50 years. But the illegal labor that was favored by the powers that be never calculated how much it was costing the ordinary taxpayer.

And neither did the taxpayers. Then the state's share of school funding started dropping. Couple that with free lunch for all and it's beginning to look like real money.

I'm afraid you're correct. So many people, especially those in their late 20s and 30s, have been so convinced the republicans are the epitome of evil (i.e. "homophobic," "Anti-women's right", "anti immigrant", and of course our favorite "RACIST") that they believe anything the democrats do is morally superior and justified. They truly believe that voting democrat is the right thing to do because they have the "moral high ground." Irrational, stupid things like having an open border, giving millions to illegal immigrants for "psychological trauma," or letting your city get destroyed in the name of wokeness and racial equity, all exist because logic has been replaced with emotion.

And that's what happens when a society decides to value itself on emotional attributes (pathos), like morals, rather than on logical attributes (logos). It collapses into a parody of people only making decisions based on how they FEEL rather than what is logically sound to do. While the west loses itself to emotionally-fueled wokeness, CHINA makes only logical decisions: they worry about how to educate their population, get only the BEST people in power, how to keep a tough and powerful military, how to compete and take over the planet as a superpower. The future, sadly, belongs to them.

Lefties on reddit are whining about rental costs going up and I have to bite my tongue and not mention that bringing in these immigrants and giving them subsidized housing adds to the shortages and that price controls are not the answer...they dont think logically and will just downvote you to oblivion. Also rental moratoriums...

I could also tell them that people are moving to South Dakota to get away from their new normal covid masking crap...again downvote to oblivion. I went to sign the marijuana legalization petition yesterday and they begged me to sign the Medicaid expansion and gerrymandering petitions...no thanks.... I want nothing to do with democrats in 2021... Anything that brings more of them to this state than is absolutely necessary.... I support individual liberty and the first amendment...not indoctrination in public schools, college campuses, the workplace, and cancel culture.

I support the idea of "question everything" as opposed to "shut up and do as you're told.". Both parties gerrymander in all states so why would I help the democrats in this state more than absolutely necessary... For now the Republicans are the lessor of the two evils.

Well on top of that, think about this. Those kids in leftist areas will be taught in school CRT, that America they went to is a racist horrible country at heart, and as future voters they should vote away the founding government for a new socialist government.

So in essence, any kids that escaped socialist Venezuela will be indoctrinated in American schools to make America another Venezuela when they are old enough to vote. On top of that, separated from their parents, their parents will have no say so or idea what their kids are being taught

Did anyone else notice that no specific schools or districts were cited in the very very long article. Only East Islip and that was 50 students counted in 2019.
You’d think if it was so huge a problem, tons of examples would be given- quotes from unhappy parents and students.
With all the posters on Long Island here perhaps someone can give an on the ground report from their high school from their children.
I am not interested in hysterics or rumor or my neighbors sister told me.
What are real people seeing in the schools that their children attend?

Reality check ----- What is the student population in all those counties. In Queens alone there are 246,000 plus students. Suffolk 264,000,Nassau 209,000, Brooklyn 323,000 so roughly . Almost a million kids. That's a huge student population.
What percentage increase is 5,000?

So the 5,000 figure is in fact a nominal increase to those very large school districts.

I assume the families these kids are living with pay taxes -- direct property taxes or they pay rent and pay some of the tax expense for that landlord. They are who are paying.

NJ residents have every right to vote against or for spending that much money per student. They are mechanisms in place to show displeasure with policies.

Lastly ---This is not a new problem.
We have seen significant unaccompanied minors at our borders for years. Each year -- even with previous more restrictivei mmigration policies and procedures, we have seen exponential growth in the number of unaccompanied minors.

No administration has sent unaccompanied minors back to where they have come from.

And you can claim it is just Democrats who are not sending them home -- but they weren't sent home under Trump either.

Would be smarter to get more involved in Central America and help those governments stabilize their countries so that parents don't send their kids to our borders?

It could be that would be a better way to spend money.

One more point.....what the pandemic crisis has done has shown how broken so many of our institutions/systems are & how we have been ignoring the cracks in those systems. A teacher in the linked article says they are at capacity for special needs and just can't take anymore. This is not JUST because of these unaccompanied minors. The system is at capacity and nothing is being done to address it. Obviously school boards are not managing that expensive cost per student very well.
