i have a friend from Canada who broke his ankle. He had to wait 6 weeks for surgery. by the time they fixed it, he had healed all wrong so they had to rebreak it to get it right.

then it took him 4 months to get into Physical Therapy (he calls it Physio... must be a canadian thing). When he got into PT, the healing was wrong because of no therapy. that led to 1 full year of not walking on his foot.

please dont tell me America is the worst. thats just stupid.

We also have a very sick, unhealthy society here in the US.

Over 60% of Americans (kids/adults) are on prescription meds with adults averaging 4 prescriptions.
Nearly 70% of Americans are overweight/obese and that is costing the healthcare system over $2 billion a year.
And then you have those with no insurance and the illegals just showing up at ER's because that is their version of "healthcare".

The medial infrastructure cannot keep up with an ailing society and that's just facts.

For each of the horror stories there are many other that you never hear of, such as a cancer survivor (me) that spent almost a year in chemo, a total of 8 surgeries, many appointments with Oncologist, Urologist, and Nephrologist, hospitalized 5-8 days 5 times with infections, and had two transfusions - all of this cost me $1,800 in 2019, $2,000 in 2020, my maximum out of pocket, thanks to a good medical plan through my employer. My share of the premiums was $80/paycheck in 2019, $84 in 2020 (now $90). I have no complaints with the health system.

In Canada?

First of all the healthcare is run by the provinces. Each province has it's own pay schedule for doctors.
Doctors set up their own practices.
Here is the one for BC.

https://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/he...e-may-2021.pdf

There is lots of information on the web comparing salaries between the US and Canada. This article is fairly good at explaining it all.

"In a 2019 Medscape survey of physicians, family doctors across all states earn an average of $237,000 after taxes and expenses and medical specialists earned around $341,000. This is actually lower than the Canadian average in 2018, where Canadian family doctors earned an average gross salary of $281,000 and medical specialists earned $360,000. Since operations costs in Canada are about 20% of gross salary, the average Canadian family doctor and medical specialist took home around $225,000 and $288,000, respectively – which is a much smaller pay gap than is often implied in popular media for Canadian doctor salary vs US."

However, it's not just about money.

"There are also plenty of ‘soft factors’ that impact American doctor job satisfaction versus that of Canadian doctors. The additional burden of medical documentation and paperwork in the US can be significant versus the Canadian system, and Canadian doctors are happier and report less burnout over all. Canadian doctors report better work life balance and more satisfaction with the medical system in general. At the end of the day, your choice about practicing medicine in the US versus Canada should consider not only the salary you hope to earn, but your cost of living, the legal risk of operating a practice, and the kind of medicine you want to practice."

It really boggles the mind, when you look at the rest of the world, who have slightly better results and significantly lower costs per person.

Not only is it bad healthcare, but it restricts the economy. Think about how many entrepenuers could thrive if they were not stuck in a mediocre corporate job SPECIFICALLY because of healthcare.

They fight HARD to keep the working man down. I just don't get it.
Lol. The workin man has healthcare. Republicans don’t feel like taking money from you and all other taxpayers and giving it to those who don’t want to work and contribute to society.

BTW - all the left on here complaining that we don’t have universal healthcare, guess what else we don’t do? Tax EVERYONE like all of those countries do. It doesn’t matter how little or much you make you are taxed and rightfully so. The democrats keep saying the rich should pay, but that is completely not possible. The democrats have ruined any possibility of having universal healthcare by their decades of pitting those who make less against those who make more.

Yes, but try to bring up the problems with our diet and you get pushback from the FDA who has been paid by big corporate interests. Number one is we eat far too much animal product and sugar. The types of sweeteners we allow in our food is bad as well. The whole system is broken from top to bottom. We need to get corporate interests out of government but that will never happen. Democrat ar now more guilty of bending to corporate interests than republicans are. How do you fix this?

I'm amazed at how many people don't know the definition of the word "literal" on these forums.

So?

Any system can have someone fall through the cracks.

YOUR system failed my father. Misdiagnosed in California. He died.

Is that a reflection of all care in the USA?

Of course not, same with your friend.
