I remember when i was in high school around 1997, i remember kids were telling anti gay jokes and saying in a singsong voice "gays not allowed"

I wonder how is teaching kids that stuff like that is offensive is considered wrong to teach kids to not use offensive jokes or such?

I would agree with you. Bullying is unhealthy for the psychological makeup of a kid especially younger than 12, and they should be taught not to bully others for merely being a certain way, but judge each person based on the content of their character.

I mean, I'm not anti-gay or racist but still enjoy a good racist joke. Heck I don't care if one is told that bashes whites. It's also important to teach the value of being able to take a joke, and roll with the punches, keeping in mind that it's all in good fun, not to be taken seriously.

It isn't wrong to teach kids that using homophobic jokes and language is bad. We should teach all children to be at least tolerant of others. Kids are always going to figure out ways to pick on each other, it's what kids do.

There's a difference between telling jokes and bullying someone.

Jokes are okay, bullying is not.

I used to like Pollack jokes when I was younger. It wasn't until later I learned that pollacks and polish were the same thing. They were still funny but by then "blonde" was the target. I never really thought Polish people or blonde people were stupid.

That reminds me when I was younger, I used to do jokes about Quebec anglophones as well as "Newfies" jokes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newfie

Did someone say that it is wrong to teach kids not to make homophobic jokes? If not, what is the purpose of this thread?

When I was in elementary school in the 1960s, I never wore green on Thursdays, because it was "queersday" and "anyone wearing green was a *****." We heard more Italian, Portuguese and Mexican jokes than Polish back then, but maybe because of where we lived in the San Francisco Bay Area. None of those jokes are acceptable today, in fact I'd hate to have to try to be a comedian now, with so many topics off-limits.
