Masks can help reduce your chance of #COVID19 infection by more than 80%.
Masks also help protect from other illnesses like common cold and flu. Wearing a mask- along w/ getting vaccinated- are important steps to stay healthy. #WeCanDoThis @HHSgov https://t.co/bfOV5VzBpq pic.twitter.com/6DGj8nwPgD

— Rochelle Walensky, MD, MPH (@CDCDirector) November 5, 2021
Quote:
A Canadian study published a few months ago reported N95s are capable of filtering out 60 percent of exhaled aerosolized particles but surgical and cloth masks filtered just 10-12 percent. A mega-study in Bangladesh found that surgical masks were useful in reducing the rate of symptomatic COVID, particularly as more members of the community wore them, but didn’t claim anything like 80 percent reduction.

A month ago I asked an older relative when he planned on getting boosted and he told me he was in no rush because he wears his cloth mask when he’s around people — which is nutty. Masking is a poor substitute for vaccination, especially in senior citizens. But who can blame him for believing otherwise when the head of the CDC is holding up masks as a prophylactic against transmission on par with immunization?

Anyone who actually believes the CDC is a "public health" organization is seriously off their meds. All these people do is lie.

It's also worth noting that the author of the second part, Allahpundit ,is generally a lackey for "mitigation" measures. Even he recognizes that Walensky is lying through her teeth. Allahpundit is also a Never Trumper and should be kicked off Hotair in my opinion. He cherry picks only the studies that show some small beneficial effect while ignoring the mountain of research done prior to the pandemic, i.e. before Democrats politicized it.

No one knows the efficacy of masks because there have never been high quality studies on them. A lot of computer modeling, and guesstimating and extrapolating or observational studies, often cherry picked.

I know. All you have to do is compare the COVID stats from states with strict mask mandates versus those without. There's no substantial difference.

Same with with Florida counties. Look at the data from counties with forced masking versus those without. Again, virtually no difference in COVID rates.

Wapasha has a great list of all the pre-pandemic (legitimate) studies done on this topic. The scientific and medical consensus was that forcing healthy people to wear masks was a bone-headed idea, not to mention completely pointless.

I think this study puts it to rest: https://www.eurosurveillance.org/con....26.39.2100822

COVID outbreak at an Israeli hospital after a 70-year old patient was misdiagnosed.

96% of patients and staff were vaccinated.

HCWs wore full PPE, which included n95 masks.

Patients were kept 1m apart and wore surgical masks.

The virus jumped from patient to HCW, and then from HCW to patients. Not the full PPE (inc n95 masks), nor their vaccination protected them.

Wearing a mask is kind of like sticking your head under your desk during a nuclear fallout. Maybe there is some edge case scenario it works, but the government is just telling you that to stop panic.

If this virus wants you, it will get you. And there ain't anything you can do about it except hide.

Walensky can go to hell as far as I'm concerned. Her organization is virtually studying this virus full time and can't even get an accurate case count. 39~120 million is a meaningless number.

I have never looked to the government or any organization thereof for medical advice, and never will.

We're not just talking about 'aerosolized particles'. We're talking about preventing spittle, etc. that things like covid attach to as well.

Just wear a mask. It's trivial, and it helps others. There is no downside.

So you want us to wear something that instead of letting a big droplet stick somewhere and the virus to die, it instead gets aerosolized into the air? As in have you ever stuck your thumb over the end of a running garden hose?

I prefer to trust the science and wear a mask to help protect my fellow Americans, instead of stamp my feet and protest something that helps people AND has no downside.

I prefer not to take advice from an organization that clearly has no interest in the science and condones perjury.

Fire that boob Anthony Fauci and throw him in federal prison for perjury and not ignoring them might be on the table.

I'm done with covid. It's over. Leave me alone.
