They were typically built in land that was easiest/cheapest to buy.
So now we will tear up perfectly good roads and operate heavy machinery while simultaneously pretending we care about green environment BS.
So we can expensively imminent domain a different neighborhood under the premise that eminent domain was wrong when they built the highway decades ago.
Destroy and waste the structures there with big diesel guzzling machines while pretending we are green so we can construct a new highway with heavy machinery and using up more resources. We are green!
Brilliant. The Brandon Administration is genius!
Roads are redesigned all the time when they have outlived their design life and aren't functioning well, have usage that exceeds capacity, or are causing problems for a local neighborhood.
If a road is not serving the local area, or is making it difficult for people to get from one area to another, particularly if a road network was designed to be spiteful to certain minority neighborhoods during the segregation era, then that's something that is fair to review as a public policy, and make changes as needed.
Well Math is racist so why can't roads be racists. The left have gone mad. I don't even know what the word 'racist' means anymore. Did the lefties change the definition? Is racist just a pronoun now. I can't keep up.
There definitely were racist highway planning polices in past decades that put freeways through the middle of the black areas of cities, or cut them off from the main part of the city, and such
That’s absurd.
Which one is it? Either whites are evil and racist and need to stay away from blacks at all cost, or anything that separates whites and blacks is evil and racist.
You would think a demographic that claims to be the victim so much, would very much welcome our own neighborhoods and areas. Oh no, we just rather shoot eachother and blame highways.
Did a highway do this?

CHICAGO -- At least 50 people were shot, ten fatally, in weekend shootings across Chicago, police said.
There is no question some roads, in some places, were built by design to maintain segregation and/or keep those who relied on public transport from accessing certain public recreational facilities.
But "some roads, in some places" have been there for many decades, just like most roads, in most places.
Nobody forced anybody to live near any roads they didn't want to be near. At least not recently. Fair housing laws do not permit such issues. As a "real estate marketing consultant" I'm sure you know that, but others may not.
The only discrimination allowed in real estate sales or leasing concerns qualifications to make the monthly payments......at least it was, once upon a time.
Where the road is, is where the road is. What are the proposals to make the roads less racist? Move the roads?

There is no question that people will always claim they’re a victim in the richest country on earth with endless opportunity.
There is also no question that city planners are elected officials and that a Highway doesn’t prevent you from getting a college degree or following the law.
Wait! What! Now roads and bridges are racist?

White House correspondent April Ryan was ridiculed on Monday after asking Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg about the racism "built into the roadways."
During the White House press briefing, Buttigieg was taking questions about the bipartisan infrastructure bill, which passed through Congress last week. Ryan took the opportunity to ask Buttigieg about the Biden administration's plans to "deconstruct the racism" that’s built into America's infrastructure.
Are we going to have to drive on the left side of the street now?
