Parents, students, teachers, and librarians were not happy after members of their school board called for book burnings of “bad, evil-related material” in school libraries, and they let them know in no uncertain terms.
Well, I admit that I am old-fashioned, but I don't think any books that graphically describe any kind of sex act belong in K-12 school libraries unless they are in biology type of books that teach about reproduction or part of a parent-approved sex education course.
That being said, however, the idea of actually burning books brings Nazi Germany to my mind, and I would NOT approve of any actuall book burnings, no matter what the subject matter.

I wonder if they can make references to Hitler and the Nazis burning books.
They sound like Bible and Quran thumpers:
“I think we should throw those books in a fire,” said board member Rabih Abuismail.
“There are some bad, evil-related material that we have to be careful of and look at,” said board member Kirk Twigg, who suggested they “see the books before we burn them, so we can identify within our community that we are eradicating this bad stuff.”
I can see not wishing there to be books concerning sex related discussions relating to prostitution and teem sex. But why burn them? That seems silly.

I don't object to a parent raising concerns over a book for whatever reason but the process to review and remove a book must be followed. If the elected officials who are supposed to follow and enforce the School District policies are not going to follow them then why would anyone else.
I am glad to see the community speak up and hold them accountable for their illegal actions.
