He didn't hit anybody, didn't set any fires, didn't bomb anything, didn't paint on the walls, so this sentence seems rather severe too me. I dunno, save the harsh sentences for people who threw punches. Basically, he's guilty of dressing up stupid and trespassing. That's my opinion anyway.

There are currently two systems of justice in America and if you have the right politics you pay no price. A nation will not stand with two systems of justice

"He made himself the image of the riot, didn't he?" Lamberth said to Chansley's defense attorney. "For good or bad, he made himself the very image of this whole event."

Prosecutor Kimberly Paschall used several videos to show Chansley's entrance into the Capitol building and Senate chamber, yelling along with the crowd. "That is not peaceful." Paschall called his role in the mob "chaos" and "terrifying."
He was egging on the crowd. Not just some dude in a costume.

There's a bit of...controversy...around this guy. Specifically what those are I don't feel much like bringing up but suffice it to say they give me pause. Truthfully he didn't commit any violence or vandalism just walked around looking extremely weird and yowling like a scalded cat. Considering the grave nature with which the feds are seeing Jan 6 3 1/2 years seems pretty light. Isn't that whole debacle being touted as "insurrection?"
He belongs to that mass of ignorant people who get riled up by the notions of others, he sees himself as "representing" something, and for all those who would follow him, let it be known that he will be paying an outsized penalty for an outsized sense of himself. It's somewhat revealing that so many conservative put themselves in the law and order camp, until, conservatives are challenging government authority. If that entire debacle was carried out by blacks the law and order boys would be there to hang em high...

He accepted a plea deal on his own accord.
