So if someone says "the earth is flat" or "2+2=5", and someone points out "no, that's false", is that now a problem? Are we cancel culturing facts now?
Actually, what sites like Snopes does is very similar to what you just did.
I did check out a fact checker on Facebook, he had a man bun and that was enough to ignore him. I actually blocked quite a few, then I was no longer able to do so. I don’t know why.

Well just remember that there was a time when the people declaring that the "Earth was round" or that the "Earth revolved around the sun" were tried for things such as heresy and dismissed by the "Fact Checkers" of the time because they did not want to be told that they were wrong or have any alternate opinions. Yet both of those we know as fact today.
Perhaps we should take that as a life lesson to not dismiss people so easily that may have alternate views. Let people decide for themselves what is fact and what is not

And what is wrong with that? People should have developed enough critical thinking skills by the time they finished grade school to be able to spot utter nonsense that has no redeeming value in truth and isn't even a gray area.

That applies in some cases, but there's a huge difference in finding out new and unexpected information through scientific discovery versus promoting something that one knows to be false.
You totally missed the point. If someone spouts off something that is totally asinine on the surface (2+2=5) and a fact checker formally points out that this is completely false and has no basis in fact, they aren't the ones who should be called out for pointing out an indisputably false statement.
If someone is spouting off something that is totally asinine, do you not think that most people with half a brain can already see that for themselves?
Fact checkers will decide what's right and what's wrong. Eventually they will make decisions for you. What to do and what not to do. Will be great, don't have to think, just do what they say. Give your mind a rest and be at peace.
"Fact checkers" during Second Independence War 1812:
Local newspaper: "Brits are invading!"
"Fact" checker #1: "Not all Brits - just British Army". Status: partially true.
"Fact" checker #2: "They didn't invade - it was mostly peaceful, although organized tourist group visiting nearby US fort. Americans started shooting first". Status: false.
"Fact" checker #3: "Brits just came to take what rightfully theirs, so it's not an invasion". Status: absolutely false.

Ya, it's easy to see that people would indeed NOT see that for themselves...
Nice take.
The sad reality is that many do not verify. Many have no clue what primary sources is/are. Sadly, many do not have any desire to fact check as the facts would discount their predisposed opinions.
And that anything that disproves their opinions must be fake.

Based on quite a few eye opening situations over the last few years, perhaps not (and the worst part is that many seem to be proud not to).
