Sadly a lot of those deaths were those already on the road to addiction/od if not an addict already. The lockdowns expedited the process but after a natural disaster or big event one frequently gets to see other's true colors including the lack of impulse control. The drugs were used as a coping mechanism and many addicts lack coping skills to begin with in 'normal' times.
if we did not have so many self-righteous religious moralist in this country the usa could treat drug addiction for the health issue it is....since these moralist tend to coagulate on the right, i think it will take 50 years or more as the right is never on the forefront of any social issue, never
How sad and tragic. Lockdowns surely did not help. Last year was already a record with a 30 percent jump in overdose deaths. This year is another 30 percent higher.
......................................... and this is after all the efforts of "the opioid crisis" directed at reducing prescription narcotics.
As predicted, the efforts DID reduce the number of prescription opioid deaths, but has resulted in overall INCREASES in opioid deaths from heroin, fentanyl, and methadone obtained on the streets.
Addicts will always find their fix. You have two options:
1. Legalize all drugs to take away all the incentives of organized crime to profit from the drug trade.
2. Keep drugs illegal, but make mandatory death sentences for every dealer and user.
The US, of course, will do neither, so we will be faced with a long term drug problem.
This has nothing to do with Biden or anyone else. It's a result of mentally ill people being on lockdown, possibly lost their jobs, who knows? It's rough times for everyone due to what was started in March of 2020 and has continued ad infinitum, apparently.
Lots of people are suffering and some get hopeless.
If you can reach out to someone who is isolated, do it.
Republican ranks are being thinned by drug overdoses and covid deaths just like the Democrats planned it.
Republicans are relieving their highly intense misery and bitterness from Trump losing that they'll never get over so they're turning to drugs and alcohol. Trump was his worst enemy, not Democrats. Trump would still be president had he said he learned a lot from Reagan, rather than from Trickie Dickie Nixon.
