On another thread is a discussion about the high cost of gasoline (which is now coming down).
As we know, in each state the Fed and State taxes add an average of 30 cents per gallon, to be used for road maintenance and other infrastructure repair.
I do not know if the Bill just signed includes a provision for rolling back at least the Federal portion of the gasoline tax (I doubt it).
Yet, I would hope that this is something the various States would consider, at least on a temporary basis.
nope, no roll back of federal gas tax (18.5 cents per gallon)…
but biden and the DOT sec are looking at (a pilot "study" IS IN the infrastructure bill) adding a mileage tax ONTOP of the gas tax
the reason for the mileage tax...they "think" that the gas tax will shrink due to all the electric vehicle, that don't use gas, and therefore don't pay into the DOT
if this "pilot study" is found viable then it could be implemented in full by 2026
while it may get funds from those who drive electric, it will also "double tax" those that use gas/diesel

I'll start by saying that a federal gas tax should not exist but the way DOT is ran, I can understand why it does.
The federal gas tax rate has not changed much at all for decades but gasoline cars are much more efficient (my truck gets over 25mpg and sedans are pushing 40mpg) which results in the same level of damage to roads but with less taxes being collected on gasoline.
The shift towards mileage or an increase in the tax rate can make up for this. Ideally you would tax both electric vehicles and ICE the same (with the exception of any tax attributed to c02 emissions). This double taxing you mention makes no sense and hopefully it will be temporary.
Biden was adding a trillion a month to the debt before his disastrous 3.5 trillion dollar spendaway was summarily dismissed by America.
And the leftists want to trust the government to take care of them financially.
One of the most critical attributes that I look for in someone to trust to manage my financial affairs is that they have their own financial affairs in order.
That's categorically false. They had an infrastructure deal ready to go. Trump walked out of it because he refused to work with them unless they dropped investigations of him. Plus Republicans had control his first 2 years.
That's categorically false. They had an infrastructure deal ready to go. Pelosi wouldn't pass it because Trump wanted Border Wall money, something Pelosi had voted for before under Bush, but she didn't want Trump getting any successes. The Dems also wanted to "pay" for the bill by repealing the earlier tax cuts, which was again, purely political and a non-starter.

It was voted on and passed in the Senate months ago. The House had to approve the changes theSenate made to the bill. The Progressive Democrats were holding up final passage trying to get the $3,5000,000,000,000 bill passed.
Infrastructure was one of Trump's campaign promises. He tried many times but failed. Biden got it done. And now Trump and his supporters are mad about it. Trump is just mad that Biden accomplished something that he couldn't. When McConnell votes for a bill giving a democrat president a win, then you know it must benefit red states.
