So Buttigieg's claim that highways are racist in part because they made low overpasses to be racist is actually not true.

Time to manufacture racism somewhere else.

In my town there is the George Washington Memorial Parkway connecting Alexandria and Mount Vernon. Commercial vehicles are prohibited but tour buses are allowed. There is one bridge on the Parkway (at Alexandria Avenue) that is too low to accommodate buses in the right lane but high enough for them to pass in the left lane. Buses have not negatively affected the parkway in my opinion. I don't know much about Moses' parkway in New York but it seems like it would have been a simple matter to build the bridges high enough to accommodate buses while still prohibiting trucks and commercial vehicles. Were the low bridges designed to keep minorities from traveling by bus to Long Island beaches? I couldn't say for sure but I would not be surprised. Moses was famous for ignoring community concerns and running roughshod over minority neighborhoods. Look what he did to Sunset Park, Brooklyn with the Gowanus Expressway.

Although Moses could have built the Gowanus Parkway over less-trafficked 2nd Avenue, a block to the west, he proclaimed 3rd Avenue to be “blighted” much as Forest City Ratner proclaimed the blocks to be demolished for the Atlantic Yards project “blighted.” In reality this was not a blighted area at all

And then there's the infamous Cross-Bronx Expressway. I would rather ride the Cyclone at Cony Island standing on my head than drive on the Cross-Bronx.

Actually I did. And even though the guy's snotty high school manner made it unpleasant to watch he did make some fair points about the height of the bridges on the Southern State Parkway. Did he completely debunk the claim that the low bridge design was meant to keep minorities from accessing Long Island beaches? You obviously believe he did. I'm not fully convinced. Maybe if the guy had presented his case in a more serious manner he would be more convincing.

The guy was mayor of South Bend Indiana. It is a dump. What are his accomplishments? Being gay? Is that an accomplishment? He is as incompetent and phony as the rest. Pretty sad when he is considered for many as possible presidential material. He is trying to pander to blacks because he has horrible approval among them.

Overpasses or underpasses of the Southern State Parkway
are not racist in Long Island being that they were constructed
back when the population of the city was majority white.

Division between Rich and Poor ? Maybe......................

Let's not forget.
Parkways are for cars only............where expressways are for just about anything!

But is he correct in claiming that urban expressways have negatively impacted minority communities?
