”No unusual symptoms have been reported following infection with the B.1.1.529 variant and, as with other variants, some individuals are asymptomatic, South Africa's National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said.”

From South Africa
Quote:

“Young people, in their 20s to just over their late 30s, are coming in with moderate to severe disease, some needing intensive care. About 65% are not vaccinated and most of the rest are only half-vaccinated,”

The new variant appears to be spreading most quickly among those who are unvaccinated. Currently, only about 40% of adult South Africans are vaccinated, and the number is much lower among those in the 20 to 40-year-old age group.

There was discussion a few months ago that viruses become more contagious but less virulent as they mutate...is that accurate or is it internet nonsense?

Mild or not, it is still Covid which is scary to get and puts vulnerable populations at risk which makes me sad and scared. The only solution is to shutter businesses so that every life can be saved. Our heroic politicians are truly miracle workers in the fight against this horrible virus.

When are people going to realize that variants will continue to pop up, regardless of the vaccination rate in this country?

The point is the new variant was first detected on fully vaccinated people.

This is a pandemic of the vaccinated.

I'm not sure we can say that just yet... But so long as COVID is floating around in nature (other animals are carrying it), it's going to mutate and do it's thing like any other virus. So at want point are we going to stop calling it a pandemic and just accept that it's a virus like any other in our world and it's most likely never going to go away completely?
