Yes, not doing so would be racist.

If mRNA is so easily edited, then there was no reason not to edit it to stop the spread of Delta. It supposedly was capable of dong that with previous variants. I don't think the vaccines are nearly as flexible as they want us to think and I don't think it was capable of stopping the spread of any variant. The timing was just such that Delta gave us an excuse for its inadequacy.

I believe because it was felt that the current vaccine was very effective against Delta, and so not worth the time involved in producing a new version:

As for failing miserably about preventing our health facilities from being overwhelmed: since some 80 million people in the United States refuse the vaccine, it is no wonder that infections remain high and are again rising.

As noted, if not for the overwhelming public acceptance of the polio vaccine, we would still have kids in iron lungs.

Totally....maybe require Americans to hug unvaccinated and unquarantined new arrival from Africa to prove you're not racist. Members of the Politburo exempted from any requirements.

Couldn't rep you again, so just responding to say I completely agree. Infectious diseases have always been the greatest threat to humanities existence. Even in the worst case scenario, a nuclear war could take our selected chunks of the population, but the survivors would simply go on and procreate as we always have.

In contrast, a disease like Coronavirus is lurking and ready to destroy much of civilization if left unchecked. This should be priority number one in any Federal budget. Just like we assembled the greatest scientists and engineers in the world during the Manhattan Project to develop the nuclear bomb, our response to Covid should be of the same magnitude. Instead, we seem to be hoping that the private sector will step forward to save the day. Don't see a lot of difference between Trump and Biden in that regard. We hear words and platitudes but are not seeing the leadership and actions that we need to truly prepare for this deadly threat.

People over 60 had better just accept that covid is going to kill them. Do what you can but know it will get you in the end.

Fear? I haven’t feared any of this from the beginning. Still not vaccinated and not wearing a mask.

Talk about the boy who cried wolf..

My employers can simply no longer put things off. Like most of us in the western world.. they have just had it and simply don't care anymore.

This is imho, just evidence of how incompetent the people in charge are.

People just have to lose weight, stop eating sugar, and take their vitamin d. These are the only options we know actually so something. The "vaccination" short cut doesn't work. # science!
