As I said, reviewers are not paid. It's something scientists do as a service to the scientific community. Large companies don't pay journals to publish or skew their data anymore than CDC does.
As you noted, researchers are often paid through government grants, plus companies fund research that is likely to advance their products. So I'm not claiming that money has no influence. All of these funding sources are disclosed in the publications. And yes, those are some of the most reputable medical journals. They would not risk their reputation by publishing junk research.
