DeSantis once again reiterated that his state supports individual freedoms.
“We are not in Florida going to allow any media-driven hysteria to do anything to infringe people’s individual freedoms when it comes to any types of COVID variants,” DeSantis said during a press conference on Monday.
The state is also willing to stand up to the federal government if necessary. “In Florida, we will not let (the federal government) lock you down. We will not let them take your jobs. We will not let them harm your businesses. We will not let them close your schools,” he added.
Florida has a high vaccination rate with at 70% of the population having at least 1 dose. Factoring that in along with the abundance of vaccines available I don't see a reason why FL would need a lock down.
You have to remember that DeSantis lives in a state that is used to hurricanes. There is a difference between a Cat 1 and a Cat 4 and Floridians know it.
Covid has been like a Cat 3 that downgraded quickly to a Cat 1 before fizzling out into some tropical force winds which are pretty common in Florida. Kids go to school during tornado warnings and road flooding.
Remember all of that ridiculous news coverage in New York - bodies in refrigerator trucks at hospitals, triage canopies being set up in parks all while doctors and nurses filmed themselves being overwhelmed. And off in the distance hospital ships complete with waiting healthcare staff sat empty waiting for patients.
In the meantime, Floridians were sipping margaritas on the beach.
Thank God someone is standing up to the Bidens and Faucis of the world. Love, love, love Governor DeSantis! Florida=America.
Neither Biden or Fauci said states should lockdown because of this. In fact Biden said we should be cautious but not panic.
