If it is used in assaults, as they are, it is an assault weapon.

"The firearms industry has countered by more accurately describing those firearms as “modern assault rifles.” AKA an assault weapon. I get it. Quit your whimpering.

Then by that definition, pistols are "assault weapons", knives are "assault weapons", etc.

They keep repeating these monikers for the AR-15 for the same reason they still keep saying Kyle Rittenhouse carried a gun across state lines and he was a white supremacist.

Facts do not matter and if they repeat the lie long enough...most people are too lazy to investigate and will just take their words for it as truth.

This has been the media's M. O. for about the past 10 years....where ya been?

Same concept is being applied for those who keep alleging that there was cheating and the election was stolen..

But for the average person who doesn't live in the gun culture and goes to Wikipedia they would find

" The semi-automatic civilian AR-15 was introduced by Colt in 1963. The primary distinction between civilian semi-automatic rifles and military assault rifles is select fire. Military models were produced with firing modes, semi-automatic fire and either fully automatic fire mode or burst fire mode"

Same design except for available firing modes....

Sorry you don't have a clue

Guns Digest was referring to MILITARY, NOT CIVILIAN weapons

For crying out loud, the 5.56 M-16 (the full auto version of the AR-15) was chosen by the military in part because it was less powerful than the .308/7.62 M-14 and the older .30-06 M1 that had been in use and was easier to handle (plus they could carry more ammo)
