This book from around Aug. 2021 is an attempt to expose the ties between Marxism and the current Democratic party and American left. Overall, I'd say the attempt fails.

I believe the current Democratic party remains based on Van Buren's model: patronage and looting of the public treasury. After reading this book, I haven't changed my mind.

Why, with total control of the federal gov't, have Democrats have not proposed to nationalize (socialize), say, the oil industry? Also why did they not nominate Bernie when they had the chances in 2016 and 2020? Instead they chose a pair of non-ideologue money grubbers.

Levin points out (p. 232) that Alphabet (Google), Facebook, Microsoft, and Apple donated a combined $55 million to Democrats in the 2020 cycle. These billionaires do not want to see nationalization of their companies. They don't want socialism. There's something else going on here.

Levin has a chapter on BLM and CRT, which are certainly Marxist-inspired. But they are also in practice money-grubbing schemes. The BLM co-founder bought 4 mansions. So much for collective ownership of housing for this 'trained Marxist.' She's a grifter, not a Marxist.

Levin makes his best case with his chapter on climate change. The Green New Deal is AOC's baby. She appears to me to be a persuaded, sincere socialist. Her proposal, in the form of 'Build Back Better' has a real chance of passage. AOC's ex chief of staff spilled the beans on this:

Quote:
“The interesting thing about the Green New Deal is it wasn’t originally a climate thing at all,” Chakrabarti said. “Do you guys think of it as a climate thing? Because we really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing.”
But even the Green New Deal is technically closer to the theories of Mussolini than of Marx. Mussolini, the creator of fascism, wanted private ownership of industry, but with severe government regulation thereof.

All this said, the book is copiously researched (30 pages of footnotes), and worth a read.
