there is a reason there are airport grade weapons detectors at inner city schools.

liberal white america skips over this like licorice pizza
Shhh...you're not supposed to say anything about those. Remember, they label those as "gang related" so therefore are forgotten.

For those of us that attended school in the 1960's and '70's, school shootings simply weren't on the radar. On the national scene, there were other things that took center stage - the war in Vietnam, the then-new Women's Movement, the Civil Rights struggle, pollution, etc.

And we had to suffer the indignity of rotary telephones

Boys would get together for fights sure, but pre-2000s you never worried about someone just going in and start shooting the school up. So what is it that since the 2000s has made school shootings so unfortunately common place?
There is an old saying, "monkey see monkey do". It really is that simple. The media played up the school shooting and the first thing I said to myself was, "there will be many more of these". Why? The media planted so many seeds during this thing and it was a no brainer that some of those seeds would sprout. There are always going to be people that follow what they see.

It is our new norm. The mass media machine is really killing us. We just don't see it....yet.

I think you already know the difference. You're referring to drug and/or gang shootings. When people refer to mass school shootings, they are referring to 1-2 shooters who enter a school with the intent of killing as many people in the school as possible.
