Imagine a building that was built using old methods and materials. Unstable, sketchy, and unhealthy overtime. Some of it has been updated, but mainly for the upper floors. For the rest, the old archaic structure still affects them. Insulation is bad, mold and bad pipes.
In our social structures, we fixed them by just repainting old pipes. In other words, just because the civil rights movement happened, doesn't mean overnight everything was fixed. The damage of old policies was never repaired.
"The damage of old policies was never repaired."
The Civil Rights act was passed in 1964. That's OVER 58 YEARS ago.
How much MORE time do blacks need to get their "s*it together?
It's not that they're incapable or not smart. Acknowledging issues within the system that are ACTIVELY making it difficult for people in poorer communities to obtain the means to vote is not demeaning. But that argument comes from the communities.
Right wing politicians put intentional speed-bumps and obstacles to discourage people from voting. Making the process unnecessarily tedious and time consuming that most poor working class people have no time for.
Make it so that voting is a national holiday, and citizens get a voting ID application in the mail as soon as they're of voting age.
"that are ACTIVELY making it difficult for people in poorer communities to obtain the means to vote is" B.S.
If you think it is harder to vote in a city or suburb over living out in the "boonies. I have a seldom used bridge for sale, Interested?
"that most poor working class people have no time for."
And who gave YOU permission to speak for THEM? Show us something where they appointed YOU as ther spokesman.
Yet WE ALWAYS voted. And I commuted OVER 30 miles one way and NEVER missed a vote.
What in the hell are they DOING with "their time" that they can't vote?
I worked in the slums and they NEVER could NOT make it to buy liquor and cigarettes, but somehow, can't figure out how to vote.
If they are that dumb, they should NOT be voting in the 1st place!
Although I can't see everyone trying to vote on the same day not turning into a nightmare,..lol.
It would need to be everyone is offered a day off within that voting window to go do their thing.
"Although I can't see everyone trying to vote on the same day"
How do you think we all managed to voted since we became a country?
I was half way around the WORLD and STILL managed to vote.
If some are NOT smart enough to figure out how, maybe they should NOT be voting in the 1st place!!!!!
It's very sad when young people die
Does the author of this article not think young white people
ever get forms of cancer that kill them?
Race played zero role in these cancer deaths both people could have afforded the best care in the world and sadly still died way too young from their cancer.
Williams had a drug issue which white people have as well.
As for black people getting shot-who is shooting them 95 percent of the time?
Can't blame whitey for that sorry

If you're referring to Chicago their mayor is also blatantly racist.
Can you imagine a white mayor of any city in 2021 saying they will only do interviews with white reporters?
