Anyway, Capitalism with significant regulation seems to work well. Regulation should focus on protecting peoples health and welfare. If that’s wanting handouts, so be it.

If you believe that the individual has the endowed right to absolutely own private property, you are the enemy of the collectivists who wish to take those rights from you. Or is it vice versa?
But most collectivists want to take your money by keeping taxes high to pay to make government bigger. The collectivists in Oklahoma City love how well that has been going for them for years.
Yes, just look at the elections this past November. People are speaking with their votes. They don't like what is going on now and dems are even voting republican.

Strictly speaking, "government owned" is called "state capitalism", not socialism.
Never mind that it's what socialism (and its kissing cousin communism) devolve into time after time. Hard-left pushers always believe that if they didn't intend it to turn into a govt-owned dictatorship, that means it won't.
First, let me reiterate the definition of socialism. It is "collective (in practice, government) ownership of the means of production." The 'means of production' includes factories, farms, distribution, repair shops--anything that contributes towards putting goods and services in the hands of the end user.
It has proven a disastrous failure where ever tried, most recently in Venezuela, which has seen a massive diaspora after Hugo Chavez tried implementing socialism after winning election in 1998.
Yet according to this poll from Dec 6, 2021, 65% of American Democrats say they have a 'positive image' of socialism. That is a landslide number in today's context. It is up from 53% in 2010.
I'm against both socialism and having a social democracy, but it doesn't look as though you read your own link very carefully. There is a hyperlink embedded that connects to another Gallup page that discusses how the definition of socialism has evolved. The survey on that page....the most popular item = equality of rights/equality of distribution of rights. The second most popular is government ownership of the means of production......but.....it lumps all of the types (government ownership of utilities vs. government ownership of the means of production going beyond that, etc.) together rather than considering those individually.
How can anyone deny that this is what is going on right now ? The scary thing is how quickly we are seeing changes. I thought it would take decades to get our country into this much turmoil, i sure was wrong. The question is, when does it get past the point of no return ?
I'm not worried about it. Not seeing too many stupid changes. There are many dumb people out there. Surely, lots of such people would rather have a free candy bar over a silver bar when offered to choose which for free. Yet, the country has been surviving those dumb people for decades. Besides the media needs to showcase the dumb stuff going on to attract an audience and advertisers.

Yeah, big companies don't mind and may very well approve of more restrictive regulations when they expect to weather them, but not their smaller competitors.
