A BLM poster had been put on his office door in mid-August 2020, a time when “the campus community was dealing with tension resulting from the death of George Floyd,” the lawsuit says. Beathard took down the poster and replaced it with a handwritten sign that read, “All Lives Matter to Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
It sounds like students must have put it up during the Floyd murder aftermath and then thi coach came in later and replaced it with a crudely handwritten sign. He was so triggered by "Black Lives Matter," like so many people are, that the phrase angered him, so he took the sign down and replaced it with his own "sign." The sounds like a way to instill team unity, doesn't it? Also, I am only assuming about the racial make up of the team, but this seems like a bad way to say, "Hey, we're all in this together." Being a Christian and all

Brock Spack, ISU’s head football coach, asked Beathard to take down the “All Lives Matter” poster and he did, the lawsuit states. Less than a week later, on Sept. 2, Spack told Beathard “that he didn’t ‘like the direction of the offense’ and that he was being terminated from his position as offensive coordinator,” the lawsuit says.
So this guy was not even the head coach of the team when he decided to take the sign down? Maybe he should have been running the offense to the wishes of the head coach instead of replacing posters on the wall. SMH
He is claiming is First Amendment rights were violated, but what about the 1A rights of those who put the sign up?

Here's an interesting perspective.
Awhile after Beathard posted that sign on his door, the head coach demoted him to a lower coaching position, saying he didn't like the "direction of the offense". And then Beathard decided the true reason he was demoted was because of the sign.
I would guess if Beathard was knocking it out of the ballpark with a very well-coached offense, he'd still have his job.
Combination of things. A coach who is causing dissension (and protest, and missed attendance at practice) among the players, and who isn't doing a bang up job anyway, got demoted.

It makes this one case look different from what he's claiming.
I did a quick look at their football record, and that team sucks. Going back 4 years I couldn't find a winning season although to his credit, the 2019 season was slightly less of a losing record than in previous years. So although he wasn't winning, he wasn't losing as flagrantly as in the past.

I looked at it and deed the perspective valid. It doesn't change the fact that they had a BLM poster on his door.
