People cannot claim that if whites did this it would be racist, but deny it's racist if minorities do it. You're talking out of both sides of your mouth.
White people have no need for space to discuss issues related to their race.
They do that wherever they want to.
Besides, the school is not prohibiting anyone who is white from attending.
There are plenty of ways to handle systemic racism and to be more inclusive that don’t involve segregating and dividing kids by race, something that is both illegal and racist.
Fighting racism with racism is hypocritical and just plain stupid.
They aren't dividing kids by race.
The kids of color are hanging out on the playground so their parents don't have to hire babysitters for an event set up to discuss their issues and get to know other parents with the same issues.
The purpose of the event is not for kids to play separately by race on the playground. It's an event for parents.
I doubt it is illegal and it's certainly not racist.
Would you be this outraged if the school held a meeting of some kind for parents of disabled/special needs kids if your kids were not in that category?

How would you know white parents have no need for space to discuss issues related to their race? In schools where kids are being taught that white people are the reason for all kinds of bad things, and are privileged, etc., they may feel the need for space to discuss such issues.
No, Blondy, if it was announced that a white only playtime was scheduled, the organizers and attendees would be called racist. So, no, they cannot do that wherever they want.
I don't know if that would be passive-aggressive, or just aggressive, but no parent in their right mind would want to do this.
Why not call it, playground night instead of playground night for families of color if it’s inclusive and open to all? People can congregate however they choose at the community playground night. They can sit with families of the same race if they want and talk only with families of the same race. No need for the school to segregate.
Apparently, the white parents related to this school have not expressed any need for an event like this.

This is a playground event where families come together to informally socialize and play on the playground after school. That is the event. There is no formal discussion or meeting planned. There is zero reason to make it exclusively for families of color. It is 100% in violation of the Constitution and the Districts polices. Segregating people by race is inherently racist.
The Dean of Culture who organized this is a White woman, who appears to be the mother of two Asian children. Yet somehow this discussion ended up targeting Black people and children. There are barely any Black children at the school (1%). But nothing to say for about 49% Hispanic children and their parents (and 2% Asian children and their parents).

The event is not being scheduled as playtime for certain kids. It's for adults. The playtime is just babysitting their kids while the adults talk. They could just as easily sit them in the cafeteria with books. Would white kids want to do that? Probably not.
As anyone with kids will tell you, children, have to be taught this crap. By nature, they do not engage in it.
Teaching them this, has never worked out for the good...but here we go again....and again....etc
So true.
I can’t understand why anyone would think that promoting racist polices of the past would help to unite people and be the way to teach kids about being inclusive.
Tell that to the 41% White and 49% Hispanic families at the school. Leave the 1% Black families alone. You people need something else to obsess over.
Reine...most of these folks wrongly assumed that People of Color only applied to Black people. And now they're choosing to ignore you.
And besides...I'm not sure it's segregationist. It's a voluntary after school community event. Schools are allowed to 'lend' their facilities to community organizations and churches...so...is this really so different?
