I don’t think “unification” in this case is much different than total control. We can’t view the CCP from the same lense as a western democracy. We have seen what is happening in Hong Kong. The long game for the CCP is total control quite possibly under the guise of unification.

That we probably agree on.
I would just caution that the world is changing faster I think than at anytime in history. China is the most powerful communist regime to have ever existed with clear plans of world domination. The whole idea of opening up trade with them 30+ years ago was the silly notion they would embrace democracy. Well, they have embraced it alright as an economic engine to fuel their communist regime. Our leaders have sold us out.

BTW - I have been over marvel movies for 5 years now. All Hollywood can produce these days are marvel and Star Wars spin-offs. The masses just eat them up.

Well, you can be smart and see the China and taiwan conflict as the conclusion of an internal Chinese civil war and just leave it at that. Most Chinese in China see it that way. Who are you to get involved? Did any country get involved directly during the American Civil War? There is no reason to get involved unless Americans feel that they need to wield their "big Bat" around the world. China isn't just some third world weakling so you'll pay for your arrogance if you choose to stick your nose in it.

So, yeah be a bit more humble, learn to live with China and share the world, and there will be no issue.

It's not going to be as easy as just taking Taiwan, as they have armed forces of 165.000, which are further backed up by over 1.6 million Reservists. The country also has a lot of modern western military equipment and casualties could be significant and include civilians.

So it has the potential to be a giant mess, which the whole world will be watching.

It also should be noted that China relies on the West for a lot of technology, and innovative companies such as ARM, which has recently been blocked from being sold while a full phase 2 investigation is carried out, as it is deemed a key national assets under the new National Security and Investment Act.

Nvidia bid for Arm: UK orders competition investigation - The Guardian (November 2021)

"ARM Holdings has been often described as the UK's leading technology company. And while it might not be a household name, many products that qualify rely on the Cambridge company's brainpower. Samsung's Galaxy smartphones, Apple's iPad tablets, Amazon's Kindle e-readers, Nest's smart thermostats, Ford's cars, DJI's drones, Canon's EOS cameras and Fitbit's fitness trackers barely scratch the surface".

What is ARM and why is it worth £24bn? - BBC News (2016)

'Without ARM, the iPhone and other smartphones wouldn’t work. Hardly anyone knows it – and that’s just how Cambridge’s ‘Silicon Fen’ company likes it'.

ARM: Britain's most successful tech company you've never heard of - The Guardian (2015)

As you have noticed, chip makers are frantically moving production to other countries. US already did this for like 6 months. Japan. I forgot, who else. It's like 6 countries, you can Google it.

So no, there will be some hiccups, but nothing major.

I meant unification as in making Taiwan a real province of China, with full Chinese citizenship and passports, freedom to travel the mainland like other Chinese. That would be China actually taking Taiwan. I think they won't do it. And control is by military or other means where the Taiwanese is called autonomous but politically needs to kowtow to Beijing yet without full access to markets and resources.

Well, if you get your news from CNN, Fox, MSNBC or NewsMax, then you might believe all sorts of things.

Maybe quit letting people tell you what to think, and form an opinion of your own? Life is a lot less stressful when you don't subscribe to the extreme left/right "news".

What do you suggest for a news source?

Just wondering.
Well, US workers are too expensive.

I can get a small 4-layer PCB made in China for $10, while an American company wants $100.
A Chinese worker at that PCB factory gets free healthcare and a decent salary, which can be used to buy a small apartment.

How the USSR collapsed convinced many that China would embrace democratic values.

Deng Xiaoping seeded the economic reform idea in 1978 when it was evident that JPN, SKR, and Taiwan were running ahead of China. Deng had to wait until after Mao's death (1976) to propose the idea. Then when the USSR collapsed, the unexpectedness and rapidity of it convinced many leaders, US and else, that China cannot ignore the event and will open up politically as well. Among the earliest foreign investors were the 'Asian tigers' economies and when the US/EU leaders saw how historical enemies cooperated with each other, what else can it be that China will reform? Now, we find out that China fooled everyone and quite brilliantly, at that.
