Until recently I would have laughed at that question and said no but Lindsey Graham’s interview on “Fox News Sunday” yesterday makes me wonder. Watch the last two minutes here when Graham unsubtly suggests that Senate Republicans can’t stick with McConnell as head of the caucus if Trump continues to despise him.
Quote:
The math here gets worse for McConnell after the midterms since the five retirees I mentioned will be gone, likely replaced with Republicans who’ll be slavishly loyal to Trump’s wishes in the name of staying on the right side of populist voters back home. If candidates like Tshibaka end up replacing establishmentarians like Murkowski, the math starts to get tricky for Mitch. It makes me wonder if he won’t decide to step down “voluntarily” as caucus chief after the midterms, which might not pain him if the GOP is still in the minority but will pain him deeply if they’re back in charge.
Personally, I would love to see McConnell replaced by someone like Ron Johnson or even Marco Rubio. My only prerequisite is that whoever it is needs to recognize and understand that today's Democrat Party is out to destroy the country.
Establishmentarian fossils who can't see that or don't care about it, like McConnell, need to go. There is no resistance from the Senate Republicans to the daily attacks on the country by Biden and the Democrats. What's the point of voting for the opposition party if they don't even oppose what's going on?
Or it could be that Lady G is entirely full of cranberries because of his voluntary servitude and devotion to the Shrine of Orange Foolius.
McConnell may be a lot of nasty things, but he is a survivor. If he lives long enough, he will still be viable long after Graham and Trump are in prison.
imagine an elite club for which You have been part is for decades. You and your fellow colleagues have tailored your positions so that you can be there indefinitely. The tug-of-war between the two parties for these career politicians is all an act simply to keep them in power.
They have never change the script it’s always the same thing abortion, civil rights, good vs evil depending on which letter you like better (d or r)
As much as I despise McConnell, he's probably one of the greatest leaders ever. He's a shrewd politician. Trump would have been nothing without him.
Mitch consistently looks out for Mitch. As soling is no longer in office, and Mitch knows the winds have shifted. He’s blowing the other way now like a ribbon tied to an oscillating fan. If Trump were to actually be physically or mentally capable of mounting another campaign, Mitch would throw his support behind whoever he calculated would best line his pocketbook. If it was Trump, he would attach himself to the orange butt again like the leech he is.
