In typical "liberal logic" (which of course ignores the laws of supply and demand), liberals say that increased drilling in the US will do NOTHING to reduce gas prices. This notion, of course, is absurd.

Trump proved this liberal contention wrong by increasing drilling, which resulted in reduced gas prices.

Liberals say that "it is a world market, therefore US production will do nothing". This again, is pure nonsense. Of course it is a world market and increasing the supply of that world market reduces prices. Also, not all oil is created equal and there are different grades of oil. In addition, domestically produced oil reduces transportation expenses which are required for foreign oil

So libs.........................................IF DRILLING DOES NOT REDUCE GAS PRICES, WHY IN THE WORLD DO DEMS RELEASE STRATEGIC RESERVES TO INCREASE SUPPLY AND REDUCE PRICES?

Like more liberal "logic", it makes no sense at all and yet is just one of the many bizarre lies that libs cling to. It must be weird to be a part of a cult and have to suspend disbelief and all critical thinking to participate. Must be a lot like being a voodoo zombie.

Democrats think their feelings can trump the law of supply and demand.

Traitor Joe has 2 purposes drawing down the Strategic Reserve:
- It makes the US more vulnerable
- It will likely lower the oil price possibly lowering the Red Tsunami coming in November

Using the strategic reserve is dangerous. It's there for the very reason its name implies - a reserve in case of emergencies, like a war (which, given the way Russia is misbehaving, might not be such a far-fetched idea).

I don't know what "progressives" are thinking, trying to go petroleum-free essentially overnight (from a "passage of time" perspective). Hopefully the next administration will inject some common sense.

No company in the history of the world ever invested in drilling for more oil so that they could sell their products to the consumer cheaper at the pump. That is not how anything works.

This is an economic problem, not an emotional one. The price at the pump is determined by speculators who bid on oil futures. I figured you would know that.

Using the strategic reserve for partisan/political points is not only dangerous, but stupid. But that's just business as usual with the demented potato that has been installed.

Most oil explorers/producers are publicly traded corporations with a common objective of increasing shareholder value. Keeping supply tight is good for the bottom line. Why produce more to earn less? That the public blames Biden in the icing on the cake.

The majority of drilling occurs on private and state-owned lands in the US. Explorers/Drillers have stock-piled a decade's worth of unused leases and permits on Federal lands.

The US has never been nor will be energy independent- producing what it consumes. Those that imply otherwise are lying for political gain or deflecting .

Most of what is produced in the US is not suitable for refinement into gasoline for economic reasons.

There have been 3 prior draws on the strategic reserves, 1991 due to the Gulf War, 2005 due to damage caused by Katrina, 2011 due to disruption in Libya.

Average national price at the pump:

2016-2.14

2017-2.42

2018-2.72

2019-2.63

2020-2.17*

* Global demand substantially declined due to Covid while a price war between Russia and the Saudis resulted in the Saudis pumping at record levels. Refineries shut down and employees laid off, all over the world.

I am an Independent and tend to vote against, rather than for politicians. I held my nose twice and voted for Trump, the last time because I thought it made sense for there to be continuity in the midst of a pandemic. Given Trump's post loss rhetoric, I regret my last vote and should have gone 3rd party.

2 things

either you guys still think Keystone is new oil, and dont understand

or

you dont understand what oil exploration(drilling) is and how long it takes.

to put it simply, drillling = looking for, you could possibly drill for years and never find oil, so yes, drilling does not equal to lower prices.

For the past 28 years, every POTUS began with a majority and then lost it.

Biden will be no exception.

Oil from the strategic petroleum reserve will lower oil prices, whereas oil from new drilling will not.

It’s similar to how stimulus checks from Democratic presidents cause inflation, but stimulus checks from Republican presidents do not.

The problem is, going 3rd party does absolutely nothing except maybe giving one a feeling of satisfaction. There's no way the person is going to win (remember Perot?), and doing so might readily get the worst of two choices elected.

It's hard to understand how we manage to get such bufoons on the ticket and leave voters essentially no choice. Nobody in their right mind would vote FOR Biden, but they checked his name because they hated Trump so much. As it turns out, Biden is much worse than Trump ever thought about being, but Trump made the huge, huge mistake of practically refusing to leave office peacefully. That's not the American way, and it's why I won't vote for him again. However, if he'd been reelected, I think we'd be in much better shape now as a country.
