1. Too much centralization of power. If we went back to a more states' rights framework, there would be a lot less chaos but that isn't going to happen. Coastal elites want to weild the federal government to control the entire country.
2. Smart/accomplished people don't run for office. Just lawyers who've produced nothing of substance.
3. The average American is probably a little more dumb (lazier and fatter as well) than our predescesors.
4. Money printing and too much debt/spending.

States need to take it back, the federal guberment won't give it back. See Governor Ron DeSantis for reference.
I think part of the problem is large numbers who's ideas of "fixing" things is not a return to 5 years ago, but rather to 1950. A time when racism was rampant, when minorities were subjugated to the whims of the conservative right of the day. When McCarthyism was alive and well.
Personally I think the way history always "moves ahead" and deals with problems is generations dying out. Here I think things will get moving when the boomers die. Boomers have lasted too long -- any doubt that our do nothing congress people are in their 80s???
The boomers will not get off the stage and they have stale ideas. Nothing will change until they are gone. We are getting to a crisis point because they are fighting getting off the stage.
Until then we all suffer in silence. But they only have about 10 more years...
No. I have never subscribed to the theory that just because things are not going the way I would like or that the "wrong" party is in office that America is broken or needs fixed. Tweaked? Probably, but not broken. That got me through eight years of W. and four years of Trump. Your mileage may vary, but America is still the great country it has been for a long time.

Dems are trying to destroy America from within.
Cool story, bro. You totally did not understand what I wrote, but whatever.
The more we celebrate dysfunction and failure while demonizing success, the more doomed we become.
