Almost all of our BIG CITIES are now highly liberal democrat-controlled surrounded by conservatives or independents in the rest of their state’s territory. Look at the map of America — mostly red dominated by big blue city dots.
The Electoral College was formed to prevent such an unfair political imbalance nationally and give lesser populated states a strong voice.
We need a solution at the state legislature level to give states a more balanced voice and power over the big cities unfair domination.
Any ideas?
I've always had a problem with the electoral college because it doesn't accurately represent the people in our country. Why should a state such as Wyoming, with the lowest population, have more say then a state like Texas with a population of over 20 million. Now that would be unfair.
The biggest problem in the country is that too many people like you think the there was cheating in the last election just because the biggest cry baby of all wasn't re-elected.

I know the procedures for a Presidential election, that's what the Constitution is referring to. You keep acting like the cities are running the states, they shouldn't be when the States Legislature has representatives from all over the state and rural areas far out number the urban ones. Maybe the message isn't appealing and that's why supposed rural areas vote blue instead of red? But you rally against taxes when there are plenty receiving their benefits in the rural areas too so why shouldn't you pay, we all are paying for something we don't agree with...
Solution. These states should decide elections based on county wins, rather than total vote. Whomever wins the majority of the counties wins the state.
So, are you suggesting that in statewide elections in Virginia, if Highland County (population 2200) and Bath County (population 4200) voted for candidate A, that should override the vote of Fairfax County (population 1,150,000) for candidate B?

Good idea — has this ever been seriously raised or debated on ?
NY is a great example of this crap.
The nutbar crazies in the metro area control and dictate the rest of the state, which by landmass is red. It’s stupid and not fair. NY mostly ends up with dictators for governors as well.
The majority of NY state is rural agriculture oriented. What’s good for cidiots is not good for bumpkins.

And that's how democracy works....don't like the current system, you can always immigrate...in China you wouldn't have to worry about that kind of thing. The vote will always be where the majority of the people are.
The system was rigged to favor slave states interests. Yet they demand even more disproportionate power. How about we get rid of this minority-biased federalism and move toward our ideal of democracy rather than just tell ourselves that we have it. One nation - one person - one vote.

Thanks for that highly thought out and intelligent answer.
I guess I’ll go get the Hitler haircut, thick framed glasses, pointy shoes, keep my beard bushy yet neatly trimmed and just fall in line with everyone else. If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.

The answer agrees with the comment. Because for silly questions there is no other answer.
