The fearmongering by the media is insane
It needs a subscription so I didn't read the article, but I think their title asks a really stupid question.

Canada doesn't intervene in any other countries' elections so why would Canada try to intervene in an American election? It's none of Canada's business. Canada is a neighbour and trade partner but it's not a freaking babysitter.

I guess if America was in such bad shape that it needed intervention from Canada or any other countries then America would have to request help from them. I just can't imagine America ever asking for help though.

wtf are you talking about?

It is ONLY Dems that claim Trump wanted to be an autocrat, or that Republicans want an autocracy.

Now, Republicans are worried about statism, whereby the Federal government, especially unelected folks, have too much power.

For anyone else who wasn't able to read the article without subscription I found another website that has the article, no subscription needed. It's basically an opinion piece about why Canada and other allied countries might need to disconnect themselves from America and cease to be allies if a presidential election caused American people and administration/government to become too violently unstable to deal with. Basically a warning to Canada (and other countries) to be prepared for the possibility of it happening.

The American polity is cracked, and might collapse. Canada must prepareIf Mr. Trump, or one of his Republican acolytes, wins the 2024 president election – either legitimately or by manipulating the results at the state level – what will be left of the judiciary, the public service and a constitutionally constrained military after four more years? And how will their most fervent supporters react if the Republicans lose?
In other words, if a Republican wins the next presidential election, Canada is in grave danger. No bias there, right?

I have news for the author of this piece: Mr. Trump already won a presidential election, namely the one in 2016. Was Canada's safety endangered during his four-year presidency? Was there any tangible harm inflicted upon Canada during that time? (Not counting COVID, which harmed everyone.) Or is the author another unhinged liberal who can't stand the thought of anyone right of center actually governing this country?

Political fluff piece. Of course ridiculous to think Canada would use their military to intervene...but I didn't get that from the article.

I got that they were more talking about intervening 'diplomatically'......

The reference to the military was more about border protection to keep Americans out if chaos ensued.....and in fact the closing statement is that Canada needs to work to always 'get along' with the USA.

We need to bolster our military and protect our borders, especially in the North. We need to strengthen our bonds with other democracies, and promote democracy through trade and cultural ties. And we need to engage with the United States, however it evolves, as a great power we live beside and must get along with.

If one unwashed Canuck crosses the border it will be a declaration of war that will ensure all of Canada's destruction. Canada is a border country. Infantry firing on their position from the south as F18's carpet bomb from east to west and the B1 bombers comes in over the top from the north to put the final touches of death on it. We can take the entire country and kill or injure 88% of the population in 8 days of unrelentless precision bombing before ground troops go in from the south to mop up and begin the Annexation of the country from the crown. It will be set up with a provisional government. A governor will be installed and run it as a common-wealth

No, because Natonal Guard/Army Reserve units would likely intervene long before things really got out of hand; but the bigger question is: "To which side (or faction) of any developing national polarization (or worse, fragmentization) would those units pledge their loyalty"?

This is TOTALLY unnecessary... We can simply misgender them into submission.

The only violence that will occur will occur by their own voting base in large cities which they don't even care about anyways.
