My whole family plans on getting cremated. I've always thought getting buried was a little creepy and have never understood the attraction over cremation. As crone noted I've long thought it's a waste of space as well as a waste of money.

It will be cremation for me. I don't even want a funeral. I'd rather my family celebrate my life in a memorial.

Visitation, funerals, and burials - I personally do not understand them. It just seems to prolong grief at great financial cost. Mom was buried as per her wishes but no visitation. We had a nice graveside service in the middle of a severe thunderstorm. She would have got a kick out of that.

That tops my story. We buried my mother in a graveside service during a snow storm.

I would have rather had the thunderstorm. I can't stand cold weather.

We were having to hold down the sprays, casket flowers, and tent. Everyone had a good laugh. Mom had even picked a song about storms of life that played while it raged on.

My vote would be "natural burial." First off, WAY cheaper. And secondly, why deny the underground creatures dinner? That's cruel. How would you like it if that hereford were to decide on cremation rather than becoming your Big Mac? It's just not right.

Actually, come to think of it... burial at sea would be a good option as well. It's like Kibbles -n- Bits for the deep sea Humpback Anglerfish and friends.

If cremation costed $5000 and burial costed $500, I guarantee the trend would be in reverse.

I think this came from Japanese tradition. It is popular among many Japanese families here in Hawai'i after a loved one dies to cremate the body. It's a tradition.

I think its the affordability and simplicity of cremation that is finally catching on here. It makes a lot of sense.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. This is the ashes to ashes part.
