The Bloomfield mayor and a gay councilman are asking the New Jersey Turnpike Authority to reconsider putting a Chick-Fil-A at the Brookdale South rest stop on the Garden State Parkway.
Mayor Michael Venezia and Councilman Rich Rockwell released statements urging the turnpike authority to rethink the decision, which Venezia called "incredibly disappointing."
"Bloomfield is a diverse community accepting of all races, religions and sexual orientations, which is the antithesis of what this chain stands for," Venezia said.
Rockwell said the fast-food company has used its "financial success" to support and influence discriminatory policies against the LGBTQ community.
"Chick-fil-A imposes its religion on employees, customers and operators and as a publicly funded entity, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority should not allow this type of business on the Parkway," Rockwell said. "This restaurant chain would be an affront to all of the citizens of Bloomfield that make up the tremendous diversity that makes our town such a great place to live."
Not that these nitwits will ever listen to anything even approaching common sense, but maybe, just maybe, they could point to one single instance of Chick-fil-A ever discriminating against anyone of any race, religion, or sexual orientation in its restaurants. And how, pray tell (pardon the pun), does the company "impose its religion" on anyone? By being closed on Sundays? By that logic, every single church should close its doors, thus leading to a sweeping religious revival across the land!
I hope that the Turnpike Authority will tune out these mental midgets and instead focus on the fact that a Chick-fil-A is almost guaranteed to produce more revenue, and thus more fees for the Turnpike Authority's coffers, than any other restaurant that could occupy that space.
Eh...I agree, not terribly smart. It’s a weird company but fairly benevolent.
But it wouldn’t take much to put better food in its place.
Lets take a look at Bloomfield's business dealings and boycott its corrupt payoff schemes. My only issue with Chic-Fil-A would be that it is closed on Sundays. Sunday being a big traveling day for many.
But it wouldn’t take much to put better food in its place.
Well, that's debatable.
But one thing to consider: the location in question is a highway rest stop. At places like that, I would wager that the great majority of people put a greater importance on SPEED than on just about anything else. You want to get your food and you want to get going, as quickly as possible. And NO ONE can move the lines faster than Chick-fil-A.
Wow! My ancestors lived in Bloomfield many moons ago. It doesn't seem to have changed for the better, as it seems they have a bigoted Mayor and City Councilman. Yes, the Mayor and City Councilman are bigoted, as they don't want Chick-Fil-A coming to their town as they don't like the company. The Ideology of Liberalism states you must be tolerant of others. They're not being tolerant of Chick-Fil-A, therefore the Mayor of Bloomfield is a bigot.
Ah, bloomfield, the town that embraces the BLM terrorist organization, thinks they have a say about a turnpike service center?????????
How about the inflated gas prices at the rest areas? Not a problem?
NJ is a one party state which lacks political diversity and this is the result.
We love out chickfila!
