The last time the Democrats made a drastic change to the Senate parliamentary rules concerning the filibuster, it was because they threw a tantrum that they weren't getting their way on judicial nominations during the Obama administration. So the Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid (D-NV), got rid of the filibuster for judicial nominations. And they got some of their nominees through.

Then the unthinkable happened. The GOP took the White House in 2016. They also took the Senate and kept it for the entire Trump presidency. And so Harry Reid could get a couple dozen nominees through to spite the Republicans...he gave McConnell and Trump the tool to get just shy of 1,000 nominees seated all across the nation. Lifetime appointments...almost a thousand of them...conservatives top to bottom....just think on that for a minute.

THAT is why Sinema won't support killing the filibuster. She is saving her party from another utter destruction at the hands of vengeful Republicans who are almost a lock to retake both the House and Senate this November.

She is rescuing them from their own stupidity. They should thank her.
So what you are stating is that only Manchin and Sinema can see the danger from killing the filibuster based on Reid’s nuclear option on judges that McConnell later escalated to include the Supreme Court?

The other 48 Democrats can’t see any danger at all and in fact think it’s the right thing to do?

Sorry, but I don’t buy that at all.

The game is rigged, pure and simple.

Wait ... did Democrats literally just use the filibuster to block Nord Stream 2 sanctions?

Go back to Congressional Record when Reid changed the rules for the judicial filibuster. He was warned, but by very few people and only two Democrats, who gave half-hearted "we should be careful" cautions.

Win today. That's what they care about, and very few take any sort of long term view, on either side. They do this because they honestly think with this rule change or that, they'll never lose again.

One of the most glaring insults that Democrats offer more frequently than Republicans is the mentality that they own a voter's loyalty. It is theirs by right. Statements like "you ain't black if you vote for Trump" is simply one of countless examples where they come right out and tell you that your loyalty is as expected and counted on as tomorrow's sunrise.

Because they think this way, they think this election's vote totals will be AT LEAST as much as last election, and they won that one. And the one thing both parties forget is that America likes to shift the power balance just because we are an antagonistic, fickle lot who likes the drama. Been that way for 200+ years. These power addicted sociopaths get way too convinced of their own superiority and get reminded, comically so, on a pretty routine basis by the American people just who is actually in charge when it comes to the power balance in DC.

Honestly, Sinema and Manchin are the only Dems right now who aren't convinced the Democrats will hold the majority forever. When they throw these tantrums and propose changing rules to jam something through, they never, as a party, even consider how it may get used against them by the Republicans should this very regular occurrence of them being relegated to the minority come to pass.

Why would any Democrats be stupid enough to get rid of the filibuster when they themselves have used it hundreds of times?

Uh huh...they are blustering and bullying, and hoping they can get 10 Republicans to bend a knee to save the filibuster by giving Biden what he wants.

They don't want to get rid of the filibuster, not only because they know they may be out of the majority, but also because they know how rare 60+ seat majorities are. So most of this is bravado with no real intent to back it up, and their standard sacrificial lambs in AZ and WV get to take all the heat for keeping their threat hollow.

That's for damn sure!!!

Unless they're hypocrites themselves, how anyone could vote for them is beyond me?
