I'm game. Can you provide hard evidence of cultural genocide?
And I'm not sure native Americans are the best example to use. Their population decline would be indicative of actual genocide, if we're going purely by numbers. But otherwise, I would agree that there has been a "displacement" in native American culture.
It's funny that China bashers would quickly retreat from the actual word "genocide" and qualify themselves with "cultural genocide".....Then when you remind them that their first world lifestyle was and is still built on the genocide of native peoples and cultures and they look at you blankly with nothing to say. It's hard to take them seriously.
All of us need to stop buying Chinese stuff. They make 8 year olds build the stuff. They abuse their own people, they released covid on the world. They are not trading partners.....they are brutal tyrants. The uyghurs are just one group of their victims. The CCP are not good people.
He's saying we should take care of our own first before we start spending time/energy worrying about other classes/groups of people in other countries. That's not a controversial statement. That's something that a lot of democrats and republicans actually agree on.
I think maybe organizations like the NBA who are heavily invested in the Chinese market ought to spend at least some time/energy worrying about classes/groups of people in that market so maybe they don't end up being bought-and-paid-for propaganda mouthpieces for the party committing the atrocities. But alas, taking a stand against such atrocities is much less lucrative than having an amoral ethos.
Except that this Uyghur "genocide" thing is a Western creation made with equal doses of western imagination, western prejudice and western manipulation....and isn't based in reality. So, he's right and I am pretty sure China doesn't really care what misled westerners think anyway.
And what exactly are we supposed to do about it? Contrary to the belief of some, we can't control the entire universe. What we CAN do is try to avoid letting such evil take root here in the US... of which we are doing a pretty dismal job at this point. The left gains ground each day, and leftism always ends in events such as the "Uyghur genocide." It has happened over and over and over again. And although we can't do much about it after it has metastasized to that point, we can certainly LEARN something from it. If our skulls aren't too thick.
We've seen mass extermination with Hitler, Stalin, and Pol Pot. It's not a good look and not good for humanity to turn a blind eye to it. This is evil on a different scale.
