Bought my last bag of M&Ms when I saw the disclaimer about them using GMO ingredients in the preparation of their M&Ms candy products (both corn and soy ingredients). I am grateful for their disclosure because now I know what not to buy.

Really can't believe the manufactured outrage about retooling their candy mascots, though. It's just like was mentioned upthread about PETA's ad campaigns - they don't even need to invest much, all they have to do is seed their message with the unwitting disseminators.

I find it funny that both the left and right are upset about M&Ms being made less sexy. Is this what unites us?

Somehow John Betjeman's poem about Slough seems extremely apt to the thread.

Slough - John Betjeman

Come friendly bombs and fall on Slough!
It isn't fit for humans now,
There isn't grass to graze a cow.
Swarm over, Death!

...

And get that man with double chin
Who'll always cheat and always win,
Who washes his repulsive skin
In women's tears:

And smash his desk of polished oak
And smash his hands so used to stroke
And stop his boring dirty joke
And make him yell.

...

Come, friendly bombs and fall on Slough
To get it ready for the plough.
The cabbages are coming now;
The earth exhales

Manufactured outrage. The Boomers need to be told they're victims.

It's a revolting substitute for chocolate, anyway.

Well, they did what they set out to do with this news release. They've got free publicity from news sites as well as random people on the internet. That's all this has been about, keeping their company in the news. And we've all heled them to do that.

Here's my new guts for your poem:

And find the geriatric politico
Fifty years of principles? Well, no.
Who closes his eyes and smiles
every time he sniffs a little girl's hair.

And smash his imaginary society,
of false promises and false piety.
And notice his vacant eyes,
right before he yells "C'mon Man!"

I like it. This seems "apt".

OP:

It’s called wokewashing. It’s what corporations do to distract the masses from their ethically dubious business practices.

M&Ms are owned by the Mars family, which are big-time billionaire Republican donors.

I don't really care about the politics in the candy but I do know that if you eat M&M's, you'll end up looking like an M&M.
