Do you think it was wrong for America to rebel against the British?

To rebel against your lawful king is always wrong... according to the king.

But the philosopher/politician Thomas Jefferson wrote that people have certain rights that cannot be taken away, and the purpose of government (ANY government) is to defend those rights. And that when a government does things to try to take them away or otherwise violate them, that govt breaks the bonds that bind the people to it. I.e. the government becomes illegitimate at that point... and it is OK to rebel against that government, whether it's a King or a Parliament or a Congress etc.

In fact, Jefferson said it was the people's DUTY to throw out that government and set up a new one that will protect their rights better.

He also wrote out a list of things the British govt had done that violated Americans' "unalienable rights"... and therefore it was OK for the colonists to rebel.

The best thing Jefferson did, was write all that stuff down and get it officially passed as a law by the American govt at the time (2nd Continental Congress).

That law (now referred to as the Declaration of Independence) is still in effect, BTW. It was the first law ever passed by the United States of America.

Like the Who song says: Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. These were wealthy slave owners that stole land from natives and killed and confiscated property from the colonists that didn't join them or bow down to them telling the poor masses that they are doing for it democracy and freedom and for them. It was an economic domination war. To control land and resources.

and here We are 245 years later and many people still believing the b.s. they wrote in books and the poems.

I think that the colonists did the right thing, and history has proved that the U.S. can prosper without taking orders from Britain.
Jeez, I’m a U.K. citizen and I don’t do everything that Britain tells me to do.

It was an insurrection. All involved should be posthumously charged as well as their ancestors.

It's funny how history is written. The Founding Fathers did an actual insurrection. They had NO legal authority at the time to do it. Not only that, they killed and confiscated property of people in the colonies that didn't join them. Pretty much what Fidel Castro and Mao did in Cuba and China when they took power. Kill and confiscate property.

The Confederates left the Union by their international right given to them by the Paris Agreement in 1783 and were defending their homes. Today 1 is great and the other one bad.

Greatest event to happen in the history of planet Earth, by a mile

For the first time ever, We the People, For the People, By the People. We've been getting pulled back for 5 decades now by the Marxists but that time has ground to a halt and is heading back in the correct direction

The funny bit is that the Tea Act lowered taxes on tea, undercutting some very profitable tea smuggling operations. The Boston Tea Party was essentially a bunch of black-marketeers protecting their turf.

Anyway - the American Revolution moved the needle away from "Divine Right of Kings" and towards "Representative Democracy", and that's a fine thing to have done, warts and all.

America has always been a work in progress. Even today, it still has a long way to go. The more we follow the Constitution, the more harmonious and prosperous our country will be.

If you are a Christian, you must believe it was wrong for the colonies to rebel.

“Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves. For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same”

Romans 13
