Young has walked away from Spotify before.
He'll be fine.

Interesting to see so many triggered by a musician whose whole career has been based on social protest.

99% of those highly critical of Joe Rogan have never listened to his podcast. Joe Rogan isn’t some kind of rocket scientist. He’s just an every day average dude who has a massive platform and will allow anybody to share their side. He doesn’t believe in censorship on either side. If he has a guest on that says the vaccines are dangerous he’ll have one on that says they’re good. He’ll grill whoever’s in front of him and demands an honest answer. He believes that we should hear all sides to every major argument and decide from there. It’s pretty simple. And it’s always been the way America has operated. Now he’s being labeled This conspiracy whack job because the left has now taken the position of “shut your mouth, my way or the highway” to everything. And Joe Rogan is saying no, we’re not doing that. And they can’t stand it.

That wasn't even his objection; might as well ask "what's dumb about removing your music from a platform that allows people who wear blue shoes?" and the question would be just as relevant to the subject matter.

I guarantee you that most people who are critical of Joe Rogan know exactly who he is and have heard at least one or part of his podcast.

He's an entertainer. I don't care for him.

If you enjoy it -- enjoy it.

If people don't -- don't assume it is because they are ignorant of Rogan

The person I was responding to said it was a dumb move on Neil Young's part, and I am asking what is dumb about severing a relationship that amounts to a pittance regardless of what his objection is.
I think its dumb that a musician of his stature would let that garbage platform pay him pennies for his work.

(And I don't even like his music)

where's your evidence that neil received 'mere pennies' for his spotify playlist?

spotify gets at least a million bucks for every ad they air during rogan's show. how much do you think a neil young spot brings in?

I'll be happy to put Young's body of work up against Rogan's anytime but no matter, Spotify's decision just makes my choice to stay on the free tier easier.

Get real.
This is Neal Young. Every other music streamer on the internet must be competing for him right now.
Young is so enduringly popular that he quit worrying about that 30 years ago. His fans will go looking for him no matter where he goes.

Young was already very unhappy with Spotify's sound quality; he griped about it last year. That's the single most important thing to Neal and always has been.

The music streaming industry is all a penny-a-second business. They make the most money on stuff that listeners are buying the most in 24 hours, and music is what brings that traffic.
