This doesn't happen everywhere. In Texas a childless adult that works less than 20 hours a week and are not in a work program and is not disabled can only get food stamps for 3 months every 3 years.

Yeah, work cash jobs (sell drugs etc.) and then get food stamps and other benefits for being homeless and you just piece together a lifestyle until stuff goes sideways.

Or....I know this is a novel concept....how about people stop relying on government or other people to subsidize their needs?

Relying on social assistance should not be a thing barring some kind of permanent disability.

Social security is different from UBI. It's for those that is of retirement age and that had this money withheld from their paycheck all of the years they been working. The money is also subject to tax if they make over x amount. Lastly being there is not infinite number of people that get this payment, it do not impact the economy same way a UBI would be in terms of inflation.

^^^^.

This is so obvious and I find it hard for people not to understand this or see the long term negative effects of UBI to our economy and our democracy.

What I'm saying is, even if we assume for the sake of argument that UBI is a good idea (for the record, it isn't), the Federal Government should not be the ones in charge of running it. The Feds can't even win wars anymore and our defense budget is larger than some countries' GDP.

I still have no idea what part of the Feds' track record gives people confidence that it won't run something like UBI into the ground, given that they've run something on a much smaller scale like Social Security into the ground.

Well, if billionaires can get away without paying taxes, that I can’t take, I say screw it, I want my government subsidies too. Selfish I know, but I don’t care anymore. I’m getting mine.

If others can do it, you would be a fool not to.

I feel like it's just another of the three thousand, seven hundred, and fifty-two ideas from the left that cannot work. If you want a starving nation of tapeworms that do nothing, go ahead with the UBI thing. Only thing it will do is cause more slothfulness than we already have.

All depends on the development in automation, a.i., and robotics.

Human population growth is slowing down precipitously and the economy is growing, so what other alternative is there with such a huge population.

IMO, there will be no other alternative. Immigration is still only practical in the short term and would just dig the hole deeper anyway.
