When Nazi Germany held the Berlin Olympics the Nazi government had their best set up the performances to show that Germany has arrived as a big player in the world. Some of the things the Nazi government did in those Olympic Games were so innovative that they were used in other games to become a tradition. China is now a world player, a military and economic powerhouse. They’re also a highly repressive government with citizens locked away in camps as slave labor or for organ harvesting merely because of their religion. Speak out against the government and you could disappear. China is also on a war footing the way Nazi Germany was since China considers certain areas in Asia Pacific to be their land even though the people there consider themselves to be an independent nation separate from China. At the beginning of the games showed the leaders of China and Russia, who is also on a war footing to expand their nation into other nations, meeting together like allies.

China has little to no history of trying to take over neighboring countries.

I suppose that could always change, but historical precedent would indicate it's not a worry.

China wasn’t as powerful then as they are today both militarily and economically. They’ve also expanded their abuse of its citizens of certain groups placing them in concentration camps for “re-education”, slave labor, and harvesting organs.

Maybe they will turn out like the Sarajevo Olympics and China will end up splitting into a bunch of different countries.

Or maybe, nothing will happen after these Olympics.

such paranoia about China. China has always viewed things in the very long term, such as having hundred year plans. We plan for the next stock report and election season. they know we are building their country by our purchases of cheap goods while at the same time making us economically dependent on them. They need to do nothing but wait and let our greed and laziness bring them to World Dominance. One day we will find you can travel from America to China and not even notice the difference except for the language. And the Govt and media will have convinced the masses its all good.

No, Taiwanese can be whoever they want. But they are not allow to take away an island that has become part of China. Period. They are free to leave but they cannot make a country out of the island. Too bad for the Taiwanese.
