Transitioned can mean dressing like , callining oneself by a different name to taking hormones to surgery. Given guy was homeless, it’s unlikely he had the means to change his name let alone take more aggressive measures.

Yeah, nothing like suddenly being arrested and coincidentally deciding you're transgender at the same time.
I hold zero faith that he'll actually serve his time in isolation.
According to the OP’s link, Tubbs will be held in isolation, separated by sight and sound from juveniles.
Sounds like 2 years solitary confinement.
If it were up to me I would have put Tubbs into the general population of a male adult prison. Let his peers treat Tubbs the way Tubbs treated the 10 year old girl.
Is there some legislation in CA that would prevent a case like from being sentenced in juvenile court/by juvenile court sentencing guidelines, but to actually serve in an adult prison?
That seems the most reasonable path forward here. Unless they'd have him segregated in an adult prison, too.
