"Following a long-awaited submission of data to the Food and Drug Administration last month, Novavax announced Monday that it had formally filed a request for emergency use authorization of its protein-based COVID-19 vaccine in the United States. "
"If greenlighted by the FDA, Novavax's shots could be the first COVID-19 doses available in the U.S. based on a kind of "protein subunit" technology that has been used for decades in other routine vaccinations. Officials say having this option could help persuade some remaining vaccine holdouts to get the shots, as well as boost the Biden administration's international vaccine donation goals."
Too bad it wasn't available when it could have actually been useful. But the latest variant is no worse than a typical flu we live with each flu season.

I'm certain more would have, and more quickly, taken a vax if they had a better choice.
Last summer the Biden administration had paused funding for Novavax's manufacturing until it could strike an agreement with the FDA over "analytic methods" for its vaccine.

"Novavax’s Covid-19 vaccine, already available for use in 170 countries and most well-known for being a non-mRNA vaccine alternative, could be approved for use in the U.S. in February and in up to 10 other countries within 90 days, CEO Stanley Erck told CNBC Monday."
"It remains uncertain how Novavax’s vaccine stacks up against the omicron variant, the WHO said. However, data suggests a Novavax booster shot increases antibody levels against omicron more effectively than Pfizer or Moderna booster shots."
The company is currently working on an Omicron specific vaccine as well.
How has it performed in other countries? Will we have a similar scenario of a booster every few months, too?
I'm also interested in comparison between Novavax and Sinovac, neither using mRNA. I really don't care their efficacy, but rather their safety. Why isn't there a Western pharma developing covid vaccine using inactivated virus, the oldest way, as in Sinovac?

Grade A naivety on display. Anti-vaxxers gonna anti-vax. It might have helped a year ago but the heels are dug in now.
Not accepting of the fact that many not vaccinated just did not like the choices, not anti-vaccine?
Personally I haven't refused, just been waiting for a choice that may be acceptable to myself at my own discretion.
In my profession we also contract with some large national companies that require it.
May become necessary for my further employment so yes, new options are good.
