The idea behind the no knock goes back to the 1960s when violent police shootings were rising and the idea stemmed of catching a suspect by surprise so they cannot reach for a weapon and get to that point of what you said 'standoff' that is not an option to the police. They want to be swift and fast.
Standoff should be the FIRST option not the last. The duty of a police officer is to bring this suspect to justice in a court of law. That can't happen if the suspect is dead. Plus, we have all seen there is risk to every one around if these no-knock confrontations lead to gunfire. God forbid you are peacefully sleeping in the neighboring apartment when one of these raids take place. This policy is simply stupid and antiquated. Time to dump it, and the mayor's action to end them is a good first step.
Because most bad guys are usually passed out then so it makes for a swift entry when they are brain fogged and out of it. Most party the evening before and are usually at a deep REM sleep and often don't know what the hell is even going on and that's the best way to capture a high profile suspect instead of shooting it out.
I can't believe how many people on here are not putting on their thinking caps. I guess your Mac Coffee machine broke down at Mcdonalds today?
Back in the days when I was running around with people like that, they stayed up all night, they would definitely be awake, (and partying likely) at 3 am.
9 or 10am would be a better time imo, everyone that lives that kind of lifestyle, is fast asleep at that time.
The problem is when the ‘hands up don’t shoot’ crew (especially the BLM scammers who appear to have gone out of busine$$) appear, the rational folks tune out the whole episode.
If there is to be a discussion of ‘no knock entries’ it can’t take place in the context of hyped (and unsubstantiated) racism.
Of course there is always the possibility that a knock and announcement of ‘Police’ might have been met with gunfire from the gentleman (fugitive?) who apparently sleeps with a loaded gun in his bed.

He might have been scared of all the crime the stupid city has been allowing. So they ignore crime and then bust into innocent peoples homes and shoot them dead. Awesome Department.
these young black kids carry guns around like they're cigarette lighters or something..and you know none of them have ever had any gun safety training or even care about that..it's all part of the black inner city culture..an it ain't gonna change anytime soon..any normal person doesn't fall asleep with a gun in their hand..and cops are always gonna be afraid of getting shot under such circumstances..these no knock warrants need to stop..

He was an American with a legal firearm in his own home. That’s what we need to be focused on. The cops went in there and executed him with a warrant he wasn’t the subject of. This could happen to you or me.

The 2nd Amendment gives citizens the right to defend themselves against the govt if need be, this is a great example of when the 2A should be exercised.

He wasn't the subject of the warrant, appears to have had nothing to do with the homicide the police were investigating and last I heard he had legal possession of the gun.
I don't think the cops were being racist, but no knock warrants are a bad idea IMHO. You get woken up in the middle of the night, most people take a few seconds to properly process what is happening when coming out of deep sleep and you see people breaking into your home.
Outlaw no knock warrants. Deadly policy.
