Because Democrats don't like being called liars so they made up a new term for it.
Yeah, like "we're invading Iraq because of WMD's" . . . . oh wait.
Or: the lie that the virus was equivalent to the flu; the lie that the situation was "totally under control"; the lie that the virus was "disappearing" -- suggested to Americans that they didn't have to change much about their usual behavior. 360,000 deaths later -
That's the intent of the word "misinformation" isn't it?
What does "misinformation" actually mean?
Misinformation doesn't mean it isn't true it means it's not part of the official information, or the approved narrative. That way even if you can prove it's true, it's still misinformation and therefore no reasonable person would want to see it allowed in the public debate, of course. You are a reasonable person aren't you?
Seems like somewhere between about kindergarten and third grade we learned what "informed" and "misinformed" meant. And maybe about fourth grade we learned about "information" and "misinformation"...
And by fifth grade we put together the fact that "misinformation" is the information that people give you when they are "misinforming" you.
And maybe about sixth grade we learned that "misinformation" could be "deliberate" or "accidental"...
I think we moved on to other topics after that.
The concept this thread is about is at a level above what a sixth grade education can support. Perhaps you should bow out of this one.

That you still view that as a partisan thing shows that you don't understand anything about the current power struggle. Not the first thing.
IOW, if you're still debating Bush era ideas, you're WAY behind in your understanding of what your opponents are thinking. If a lot more are like you, that would go a LONG way in explaining many of the current divisions we have.

You've very clearly never held any leadership positions.
state run media. most days (every day in 2020) there is/was a 5amEST meeting of reps from the networks, platforms, leadership and various pacs to agree on the messaging du jour. what was allowed vs not allowed.
not allowed = misinformation
since most of the on air MSM talking heads have the smarts of a peanut butter sammich, they would read DIRECTLY from the sheets on air and generally TCT producers would have the minions gather them up and make a montage of the clips each night. You only have to see this segment 2 or 3 times lifetime to lose all respect for MSM.
That we have a *lot* of people still reading/watching MSM and parroting it as gospel - yikes. I mean geez...people still tune into the eunuch/stettler or Maddow...
If something false, why not call it a lie and prove that it's not true?
What does the label "misinformation" truly mean?
"Alternative facts", a la Kellyanne and every other sentence out of Trump's mouth, you mean (30,000+ documented lies)? Or did you have a different lie in mind...?
