Excellent point. Everyone has opinions. Not all opinions are born of facts.

Misinformation is not opinion. It is an intentional attempt at taking a set of facts and using them to accomplish an agenda, whether or not they support your viewpoint. I have seen a thread where one sentence was taken out of several minutes of Biden's speech and used to make it seem like he is a racist, when in FACT the sentence was taken entirely out of context and twisted to fit an "opinion".

That is misinformation.

I am not a lawyers, but my guess is that if someone untruthfully calls someone a liar, they can be sued for libel or slander. Calling something "misinformation" might prevent claims of actual malice when a news source claims that something is not true -- or at least make it more difficult to prove there was malice behind such claims.

Is misinformation an opinion you don't agree with?

Or is it using information out of context? That is, taking a sound bite or statistic and piling on it so what is ultimately stated has nothing to do with the original context?

Lie - intentional statement that is against the truth, and so known by a liar.
Misinformation - use of information in a deceptive manner, to lead a person in wrong direction. Misinformation is not necessarily a lie or not true. It is how it is used, that makes it such.
Example. Planets orbit the sun is information. Same time, it is misinformation, as they really do not, the entire solar system/planets trajectories are much so different from simple orbiting.

not allowed = misinformation

since most of the on air MSM talking heads have the smarts of a peanut butter sammich, they would read DIRECTLY from the sheets on air and generally TCT producers would have the minions gather them up and make a montage of the clips each night. You only have to see this segment 2 or 3 times lifetime to lose all respect for MSM.

That we have a *lot* of people still reading/watching MSM and parroting it as gospel - yikes. I mean geez...people still tune into the eunuch/stettler or Maddow...
I've seen those clips of 20+ news shows reading the same script.

I was listening to a podcast and the speaker was talking about the 'parroting' phenomena. How people have no information but are repeating talking points to each other, over and over. She had overheard a few conversations at the grocery store about the Britney Spears conservatorship situation, when that was 'breaking news.'

Her first thought was 1) they are all talking about Britney as if they all know her personally, and 2) they all are saying the same thing. The conversation was shallow. No in-depth discussion about the conservatorship. Only what was reported on the news. Same phrases. Like parrots. Like robots. No thought. Programmed.

Interesting.

Funny how so much MISINFORMATION is now true. Liberals want their word as absolute truth no matter how wrong they turn out to be.

"Disinformation" is willingly providing false information or lies. The left wingers use the term "misinfomation" to mean deceit by providing the "wrong" information. It's very Orwellian when you think about it, because if they had their way you would only be allowed to see the "correct" information as determined by these authoritarian overlords

I know. So what does the word 'misinformation' actually mean?

What is the PURPOSE of labeling something "misinformation"? Just for censorship purposes?

If something is "misinformation" it's deemed censorship or ban worthy. Yet what. does. it. mean? Definition? Pure and simple?

PS. We went from: that's crazy> that's conspiracy theory> that's misinformation

Why?

A lie is a mistruth PURPOSELY told. The person KNOWS they aren't telling the truth.

Misinformation is of course the essence of a lie, BUT misinformation can also be given by someone believing what they say is true.

Opinions can be informed opinions, or uniformed opinions.

Uninformed opinions are usually filled with mistruths and incorrect assumptions, while informed ones, less so.
