I don't like throwing around labels like "fascism" to describe Republicans, any more than using "Marxism" against Democrats. Both are equally silly.

We don't need labels to deplore illegal or unscrupulous activities. Personally, I think we should make Jan 6 a national holiday. This is the day that the rule of law prevailed, and Congress turned back the efforts by Trump and Co. to overturn a legitimate election. The author is correct that there is no guarantee next time, but the answer to that is to tweak the laws, for example to clarify that the VP cannot reject electoral votes.

let's see. Which of this pictures are official Trump stuff?

Does the American Eagle on the seal look like that in one version used, or not?

The "America First" I've already given to - it "exalts nation". But fascism requires more than just 1 characteristic. In fact, I'd say "Trumpism" still puts the individual first. And who should a citizenry care about, nation-wise the most? Not their own?

But cute reddit find.

I thought they were working on that.

As to making Jan 6 a holiday, that's still highly-unnecessary. It's a Democrat dream that a majority of Republicans thought Pence/Congress could or would have done anything but what they did.

A national holiday about 1 event of protesters with NO guns and no deaths that lasted 4 hours against a Nuclear Power. You Democrats crack me up. Just looking for another day not to work and get paid.

The U.S. supports 87% of the world's dictators and the CIA are 24/7 at work in other countries elections and overthrowing them but Salon are worried about 1 protest with no guns that nobody died that lasted 4 hours a threat to the world's democracy? LMAO! Thanks for the laugh.

Meanwhile the BLM violent protests in 2020 which was supported by the Democrats and ordered the police to stand down to cause more damage during an election year gets thrown under the rug. I guess for Democrats, that isn't an attack to our institution and laws. They were all peaceful.

Better motivating speech to fight than what you hear in most Football locker rooms. That message is clear, get what you want or burn it down. January 6th showed which option Trumpers decided to choose.

the right has capitalized on the word socialist within the gernman Nazi party

in the 1920s, 30s the germans had comunists, socialist, social democrats a super nationalist party and the nazis...
germany had no experience with democracy other than the Wiemar republic...hamburg was the cocaine capital of the world

many if not most germans longed for a return of the kaiser and an authoritarian government

ernst roehm a captain from the army was in charge of the socialist branch of the nazi movement, hitler even worried roehm might have to much power and the prussian elite within the army disliked roehm...

in 1934 durring the night of the long knives hundreds of roehms supporters were murdered quashing the socialist branch

the nazis had written some socialist style viewpoints, but never introduced any socialist laws, never

rightwing populist media has completely we-written history to make one think the left are nazis at heart, which is at best a confusion of authoritarianism with nazism
